LINDBURG !!!!!!!!!

Hi all!!!

I just bought a Lindburg Submarine kit, and lets just say I was A bit disappointed… the fit and finish is poor, plus there was no decals!!! I did call and order them. They will send me the decals free of charge.

But non-the-less i’m not sure i would another…

Any feed back on this manufacturer???

In my openion, they produce models for young children. They have a lot of working parts on their aircraft. For the dedicated modeler I would not recommend them at all. They are a toy company, not a model company.

Don’t waste your time or money on Lindberg kits. I was given a Lindberg T-72 and realized the only good use for the kit was in simulating TOW missile strikes in the form of firecrackers.

WOW!!!

i guess my intial feelings were right then !!!

Thanks for your advice!!!

I will stay clear away then…

If you build cars, some of Lindberg’s cars are goog. Their 66 chevelle, 53 ford, their early 60’s mopars, Little red wagon, all very good kits.
Lee

REALLY???

Thanks Lee

If you continue to purchase lindberg kits, stay away from their anatomical kits. I TRIED to build their Human Eye Kit a few years back and I’ve never seen so many mismatched parts in one kit in my life.

I can’t speak for their car kits but I tried a couple of their aircraft kits and couldn’t recomend them. Their 1/48 Gloster Gladiator is one to give a wide detour around.

Berny13 summed it up best - they’re a toy manufacturer. Steer clear - or let the buyer beware!!

Yup, I recall many a frustrating session trying to assemble Lindberg kits as a wee lad. They must have been the only kits available at my local Woolworths!
About 10 years ago I built their B-17G (for whatever reason), and as you can imagine, it was sorely lacking. Didn’t even have the windows above the pilot and co-pilot! I also built some kind of landing craft…don’t know how accurate it was, but it went together OK. It did have a pretty crap M46 with it.
BUT, I suppose I did learn quite a bit about modeling from those poor kits. At least, how to deal with lousy fit!

LINDBERG…A good waste of plastic…

Lindberg PU! My ebay Lindberg 1/72 He-100 should be here any day. I’m weak, I couldn’t resist.

Most Lindberg kits are pure junk. But you can do some amazing things with them. The Best In Show at a recent IPMS contest in Atlanta recently was a Lindberg Jenny kit that had been completely rebuilt from the inside out, complete with 1/48 scale turnbuckles on the control rigging. Amazing detail. Just depends on the work done. Considering it was a crappy kit to start with, even more amazing. -Ed

I can speak for their auto kits, and with a small handful of recent releases, most of their 1990’s auto releases were very nice.

Keep in mind that many of the Lindberg kits were originally released MANY years ago. I built one of their B-17G kits when I was ten years old - that is 45 years ago, and I remember building some of their 39 cent 1/72nd scale airplane kits even longer ago. I do recall that their Ju-88 and He-111 had - considering when they came out - some fairly detailed cockpit interiors. Also, their 1/48th Me-262 and Ju-87 ( built one when I was nine ) could be turned into nice replicas with a little bit of work. I built most of their early 1/48th fighter kits, and while they were simple, building them gave me the chance to develop skills that came in handy later. They also had a few off-the-wall subjects such as the McDonnel F-88 Voodoo, and the Republic XF-91 Thunderceptor. Come to think of it, they even had a model of a “flying saucer” - it was molded in silver plasic, but the pilot figure was GREEN plastic !

All of this said, it does surprise me to see that many of the Lindberg oldies are still available, since model technology passed them by so very long ago. If any of their early, simple airplane kits are among those available, they might make good “beginner” kits. Most people who built Lindgerg kits in the 1950’s and 1960’s were youngsters, so maybe Lindberg just can’t shake themselves away from doing kiddie kits. Maybe they just don’t want to spend the money !

Not being that much of a car modeler, I never built any of their car gets, so I cannot comment on them. I did build some racing car kits in the 1960’s, but they were for the most part from AMT, IMC, and Monogram.

Hearing of the Lindberg kits does bring back some happy memories of my time as a very young fledgeling modeler.

I agree with most of you they are poor models, their scale is NEVER accurate
but for my favorite aircraft it was not the only one but it was the easyist to get,
the b58 Hustler

Lindberg kits were OK for their time, but are not up to current industry standards. The kits are still on the market because they still own the molds, and it costs relatively little to mold and package their old kits.

Their recent car kits, with the exception of the last couple of years, are all new tools, examples being the 66 Chevelle, 67 442, 53 Ford, etc. Nice kits.
