Lindberg 1/35 T-80

I’ve got one of these that’s been gathering dust in the closet for about 8 or 9 years. I’ve heard that it’s truly horrendous with regard to accuracy. Is it beyond help?

It is good as a target for firecrackers beyond that I don’t think it is good for anything else. Try to find the DML/Zvezda or Skif T-80 models as they are much better. They do have some problems but are much more accurate when compared to the Lindberg kits. SP Designs makes some resin detail kits to improve the accuracy of the Skif and DML kits. HTH

Linberg has been the “stinky cheese” modeling company since the fifties. They suck, they’ve always sucked, and I never buy anything they make.

Put the Linberg T-80 down range and use it as a hard target , or give it to someone that is just starting modelling . The previously mentioned T-80 's from DML , etc , are the way to go .

Lindberg’s done some nice kits in the past for the era. In the 90s they did a series of 1/20 scale cars and trucks that are still highly regarded. Their T-55 was Squadron’s kit of the year when it hit the shelves in 1989. They also have several nice 1/24 scale cars and trucks. The kits they did for movies like Jurassic Park and Independence Day like the T-Rex, Veloceraptor, Spitter and Alien Attacker were very good kits.

Their T-80 came out before the Wall came down. Their kit was based off of grainy photos and at least they had the nerve to try to produce a T-80 when the only other modern Soviet armor kit around was the old Tamiya T-62.

Having said all of that, The T-80 is a terrible kit. If you do decide to build it, the tracks are so tight that the mounting pins for the sprocket will bust off when you try to put the tracks on. Replace the mounting pins with a styrene rod or metal rod as an axle and move it inwards to give you a little slack to play with.
