Liberty ships

New order Trumpiter John Brown

That’s a good choice. Tom’s or Gold Medal make a good PE set that’s worth adding.

Pay NO attention to the Trumpie color plans. Happy to help there.

I’m real familiar with the J O’B but not the Brown.

Bill

you have the website for the PE?

Here you are at 1/350.

I’ve actually sailed on the John Brown; they (used to have?) Veteran’s Day cruises on the Chesapeake Bay and I did one - maybe 25 years ago now? She was in beautiful and operational state - I hope she still is.

I used Tom’s PE. Its a great kit and great PE.

I know this:

In my eyes the Liberties are so wrong. You do know many were lost because a flaw in construction and design! Not the yard’s fault either. They Would work so much in a heavy sea they would break in half right at the front edge of the deckhouse! Plus as ships they were as slow as molasses!

Now that off my chest. The Liberties served well. The Fact that two still exist is amazing. Kudos to their Museum crews for the job they have done. Look at them, have you ever seen a more basic design? intended for only one job, carrying freight and goods with no frills.

They look strange so when building be careful. They never look pretty. So don’t try. It is a cargo transporter so it is basic. Keep it that way. Weather well, and make sure it looks like it worked hard. They Did! Pay attention to the details of the vents and stuff. They had no air conditioning or stuff like that so make sure the vents are turned correctly!

The Jeremiah O’Brien is maintained by volunteers. My daughter dated a guy for a while that was in that group. He used to give me chunks of stuff removed for repairs. Gave us a couple of tours too.

I passed up on the shaft tunnel crawl though. About 150 feet long. No way.

One of the more impressive things was the manual steering gear way back in the stern.

Hoses, scrapers, buckets of paint everywhere. A group sailed her to Normandy in 1994 I think.

There was a big pier fire a number of years ago. The J O B and Pampanito SS-383 were towed and saved by SFFD.

Here is a bunch of good information:
