Let's Talk Paint Booths

I have always used inline “helper” fans. You buy these fans and install them in HVAC duct work to help climate control reach the far end of your house.

These fans are great because you clamp your duct right to each end. No bends, or adaptors needed.

@Tim_Kidwell1 if your FSM booth is serving you well, then yes, I would love to see the specs.

200 Euro waterfall booth , you can’t go wrong with this one

The waterfall paint booth just seems like overkill. I’ll have to look up how much one of those is. Maybe if they are not crazy expensive it could be worth it.

What do people do when you have to paint really large 1/32 scale model aircraft fuselages or large 1/350 scale ship hulls like battleships or carriers? Is there a paint booth big enough to handle such things?

I wait for a nice day, roll my model over to the garage door, have a fan blowing behind me and spray away, wearing a respirator. My ships are in 1/96 and 1/100 scale, so are between 4 and 8 feet long, and short of finding a booth sized for a small car, a booth is not in the cards.

Related - I ditched compressors 30 years ago and adopted CO2. Any folks think about going that way? I’ve enjoyed a silent, perfectly dry air source for a long time.

That’s commitment right there, I got a 40 gallon air compressor in my garage, i let it build pressure and shut it off. I can easily get a three day weekend out of running it once.

I’ve often thought of getting a paint booth. Because I don’t have any windows in my downstairs shop, I spray in my garage always. In the summertime, I run a dehumidifier about 30 minutes before I airbrush. Nothing fancy, and it’s close to my model closet.

I got a medium size Pace Paint Booth for my birthday about 20 years ago and it’s still working great for me.
