Actually the ptice seems on the low side for a restored bird. Buyer better check it out carefully.

Right “now” the current bid is at over $77,000. What an awesome thing to own, even if it didn’t even participate in WWII. Hm, let’s see here. I’ve almost got enough. Just $76,999 to go!

Man, what a sweet ride…

Wish I could afford that. Wonder what the reserve is on it? Oh well I can dream can’t I.

Noumber 2 engine only has 240 hours left before major overhaul is due. That will cost almost as much as the current listing price. Anything less than 1/4 or 1/2 million $ would be a steal on a Gooney in good shape. Warbird collectors who know what is going on would be snapping this up in half a heart beat.

I wonder if the Navy would let me keep it on the flightline here at Fallon;-p

imagine the look on peoples’ faces when they see it on your backyard!

$ 78,000.00 for a bird like that?.. very cheap… there’s something weird about that

I wouldn’t want it… it would take up too much fishing line to hang it from my celling…

How 'bout we start a communal money pool to raise the funds and buy it!!! [:D]

What? No takers?

That’s good, becuase I wasn’t serious. Half of us more than likely would never see it, and most of us probably don’t know how to fly (myself included.)

Still…

Gaa! Must- Stop- Thinking!

Nice bird. Think of all the models it could hold!
Maybe I could convince my wife to let me bid on it…probably not. I guess the price is one of the reasons I build models as they are so much cheaper, even with AM detail sets.
Cheers,
Eric

For those who can’t afford, the guy also sells a number of tools around $ 100-130.

Save money??? Have you got any idea how much money it costs you to crank that thing up and fly it around the patch? Figure 45 gallons per hour per engine at cruise for fuel (@ $3.00 t0 $3.50 per gallon) plus oil (from the 1830 manual - “Oil consumption of 5 gallons per hour or less is not considored excessive” - you don’t buy oil in quarts, you buy it in 55 gallon drums) plus insurance plus maintenance costs means that thing is going to run you somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500 to $2000 per hour to fly it. (and that’s probably conservative) - I don’t know about you but I could buy a lot of models and paint for that.

I might bid on it so that I can “berlin airlift” some cow deposits onto my mother-in-law’s house. Man that would be cathartic.

Honestly the first thing I would do is overhaul the avionics…the package is nearly 30 years old…the newest thing is a 10 year old GPS system that isn’t worth crap anyway. So we would be looking at close to 80K to do a decent avionics upgrade not including new panels and if we put in dual fuel flow, and dual enginge monitor…well, we are now in the 100K region. I bet the reserve is at least 300K. The engine is probably another 100K, and the windscreens are most likely scratched and will need replaced…another 50K. Lets not even get into the interior…we could bump this bird up to 1 mil easily…at which point you shoulda just saved yourself the trouble and bought a newer 421, Duke, or Barron.

Hey kik, let’s just go ahead and give it an all-digital glass cockpit while we’re at it [:P]

My wife would put me up for auction if I were to try buying that. Even though used husbands have almost no resale value, me thinks that she would have good grounds to to do so.

I’m all for that! and a FLIR pod to boot!! LOL [:D]
