one cold night you were sleeping…
suddenly you hear a loud BOOOOOOOOM! IT is an invasion![8D it was a MiG-29 fulcrums. you had no choice but to fight with them. there were two aircraft you can choose the f-4 phantom or the f-117 nighthawk. the question is that, what aircraft will you choose?[8D]
Well considering your going to be in a dog fight situtation , I think I’d go with the F-4 , after all as far as I know the Nighthawk doesn’t carry armorment other than bombs ??? I could be wrong on this .
F-4. The F-117 is not a fighter, rather a precision attack/deep strike attack aircraft. Not even sure why they put an “F” in the front of -117. Must have been an ego driver thing.
BTW delta daggar,
Nice to see you changed your signature photo. I’m not sure of the intent of the Pearl Harbor attack photo but I for one take it to mean that we must ALWAYS stand vigilante and prepared for those who may mean us harm.
Oh, and the quote should say “December 7, 1941. A day that will live in infamy”.
Boy, that’s a tough one. Although I spent many years on F-4E’s and the fact that it is a true fighter, my fighter wing, the 4th FW, has the only fighter to have “bombed” down an enemy aircraft. They used a laser guided bomb to shoot down a Hind helicopter in GF I. I am sure other planes were taken down by bombs hitting them, but these guys did it purpose. So maybe the F-117 wouldn’t be such a bad idea. Nah, I want the sidewinders and a gatling gun. [:)]
I don’t know about you guys, but if I had a choice, I’d stay on the ground. Tangling nose to nose with a Mig-29 in a Phantom is not such a great idea. F-4 isn’t a dogfighter in the modern sense, say, like the F-16 or even F-14 or F-15. We’re comparing aircraft from two generations. Fulcrum has the advantage of maneuverability and thrust vectoring. Phantom goes real fast, but you’re bingo fuel before you have a chance set yourself up for a decent shot.
Nope, in this instance, I’d stay on the ground. Now, if you’re talking about Mig-25s, then definitely give me an F-4. They’re a bit more level on the playing field.
I don’t know, the Cold War is over, any MiG-29 operating nation that has pilots with any skills worth commenting on (thats Eastern Europe) isn’t really considered “hostile” anymore.
As for those Fulcrum operating nations that still are considered hostile, if their pilots’ skills aren’t questionable, then the state of repair on their aircraft usually is.
At that, I suppose it wouldn’t really matter what you threw at a “hostile” MiG-29 these days, the pilots would either turn tail and run if challenged, or the MiG would shake itself to pieces out of poor maintenance.
I spent three years running a F4-J fire control shop and I wouldn’t hesitate to use the F4. In the hands of a Top Gun the Migs wouldn’t stand a chance.
Good topic but I’m sure glad it’s a “Let us assume —”
MiG-29s buzzing an airfield huh? Easy. I’d go with neither.
I’d just set up a lawn chair, grab a beer and watch them either hit a bird, wait for an engine failure or just collide above the runway. Then call security to pick up the two [censored] out there wearing parachutes who who woke me up. Then I’d go back to sleep.
