Hi guys, I just finsihed my LAV! It is Trumpeters 00349 kit - LAV-25 “PIRANHA” and I added the Lion Roar photo etch set. I have to say it builds beautifully! And is a must have for any modern armour builder!
So with futher a do, here are the pics, btw, I also am entering this into my LHS’s model contest this Sunday[:D]
Great job. It looks excellent. Only things I would add is to rub some pencil lead on the barrel so it has a metallic look. Square blocks on the rear sides are periscopes too and should have glossy lenses in them. Also some soot and a little rust on the exhaust pipe area. Great build.
Out of all the armor, I love the LAV-25’s the most! There’s just something about those units that really do it for me. The first armor model I ever built was Italeri’s LAV-25 and I loved it. Of course I did it in ODS markings and was really pleased with the way it turned out. Unfortunately it was destroyed by enemy fire, otherwise known as the ex-wife.
You did an absolutely fantastic job on that Piranha and it shows. It definitely makes me want to get a couple more to build, that’s for sure!!! Simply fantastic work! Keep it up Anthony!!! It’s definitely a project to be proud of!!!
This is your best build yet Anthony. I really like it. Too bad I have the outdated Italeri version, but oh well. I would have liked to see some of them straps holding a little gear, but that is your call. Well done.
You got it. It will give it a worm metal look. You can either draw directly on it, or take the pencil and rub it on some sand paper to make a powder. Then take the powder on your fingers and rub the barrel down with them.
hi anthony-- [:D]-- i am not to up to date with modern vehichles, but i must say your build and the detailing look outstanding to me-- i wish you the very best in your up coming competition and hope you come back with the gold!!( or blue ribbon, what ever the case may be!!-- lol)-- you have done a beautiful job[wow][tup]-- treadwell
very nice anthony, although modern armour is not my thing i can appreciated a good looking cammo job on anything also i like the weathering on the under side too looks just right for the rest of the vehicle well done.
For the weathering of the lower body, I got a pastel, it was named “buff” so I shaved it down with my knife and took a brush and kind of smudged it in, works like a charm!
Looks great. I actually just started mine today. I used to love riding in the back of the LAV. Also, when I was in California, you would occasionally seen them on Interstate 5. You would look into your rear view mirror and see this green beast with its 25mm gun doing 60 mph behind you. I’ll tell you I served doing a double take the first time I saw one behind me. Jesse
Anthony, great job on your LAV. I’m a big fan of USMC vehicles, and you’ve done this one up right! I think I’ll pick one of these up the first chance I get. Camo looks spectacular and as others have said, you’ve weathered the wheels/tires and undersides really well. Keep up the good work and good luck at the contest.
You’ve done an excellent job, Anthony! Clean build, great camo.
The guys above have given you some good advice.
I have two suggestions for you:
The straps hanging down on the left side of the vehicle seem a little too stiff or straight to me…they seem to hang a little unnaturally. You might try twisting a few of them, kinking them up a bit, doing something to make them hang a little more naturally. I’m not sure what kind of physical properties those kind of straps have, so you might want to check some reference pix to see how they hang when loose. They could very well hang just as you’ve depicted them, but when I first saw the pix, I thought they were some kind of poles or sticks hanging on the vehicle.
The tires on the right side of the vehicle are hanging off the side of the base. To me, this is a bit distracting and draws my attention away from the model. You might want to consider sliding it over to the left far enough so that the tires are on firm ground (if it doesn’t cover the nameplate on the left side of the base).
Anyway, just a couple of suggestions for your consideration.
It’s a great build, and I’m sure you’ll do well at the contest this weekend.
Good luck!
Thanks J-Hulk, I agree about the straps, but I super glued them so the side so they would stay there so there’s no fixing them now [:(]
For the wheels I agree completely, but yes, if I would have put them over, the others would have covered the name plate so I tried to get them as close as center as I could.
Thanks again guys! I should be dropping it off today to stay overnight.
Hello Anthony,I do not have enough knowledge to say that this or that part is wrong, or you should do this or that; but I can see a nice build and yours is a very nice build.
Some one has said its “your best build yet”, perhaps it is[tup][:)]…Kenny
