Here’s the newest member of my Blue Angels project, a 1/72 Hasegawa F9F-8 Cougar. This is one of those 30 year old kits, from way back when.
Surprisingly, the kit detail is pretty good. It’s got recessed panel lines and the fit is really good. I didn’t have any gap issues to contend with. The cockpit is sparse, but in a project like this, that’s not all that important to me.
The worst part was the decals. All cracked on the carrier sheet. I gave them a coat of Testors’ decal adhesive, to try and hold them together. I had to soak each decal for over a minute, in hot water, before they would release from the backing paper. And when they finally came off, they were still cracked. But multiple washes of setting solution and I finally got them to settle down. And a final coat of Future, brought them all together. A lot of work, but the end result was worth it.
The NMF is SnJ Aluminum polishing powder, sprayed over with Future. I love the fact that the Future doesn’t dull the finish, like with most silver/aluminum paints.
