Late 40s to late 50s 1/72 scale support vehicles?

I’ve been looking for 1/72 scale support vehicles of the late 40’s to late 50’s for dioramas with little luck. More than just jeeps and standard cargo trucks, stuff like Ford/Chevy command cars and pickups. HO stuff is too small and basic diecast is too big. Anyone have any ideas?

You’re right, not a whole lot out there. Might be a little too old for your dio, but here’s a 1942 Ford Super Deluxe Sedan. Some other possiblities also there, but it appears Ace deals mainly with Russian subjects.

Thanks for the links! That 1942 Ford staff car might come in handy down the road. I guess I just picked the wrong era, although it looks like American support vehicles other than jeeps and deuce and a halfs seem to be pretty rare for any era. I did find a company (Cararama) that does a die cast 1950 Chevy truck and 1948 Ford Truck in 1/72 scale but the colors aren’t great. Guess I’ll have to break out the tools and paints so my B-36 isn’t lonely on the tarmac.

I’ve had the same problem, Dutch. There’s hope though… a company called Aircraft in Miniature (AIM) has been turning out a series of ground support vehicles and objects in resin. It’s a British company so naturally they emphasize British versions, but they have provided a number of American types and are working on more. I know for a fact they’re considering modeling a 60’s Dodge crew cab. And they’ve just released the munitions trailer for the Big Belly bomb clips, and are working on releasing both a 500 lb and 750lb clip to go on the trailer.

Cheers, and I hope this helps you,

Russ

I have a couple of their items, one of which i got for my B-52, and they look rather nice. I am loking forward to those Big Belly sets, they must have been watching your build Russ. Will save me a lot of trouble. But as far as i can tell, they can only be bought through Hannants

Hi, Bish,

As a matter of fact they asked me and I provided them the information and measurements I had for the trailers and clips, and for the bomb loader I built. The trailer is already available through Hannants and the clips should be available soon. The bomb loader is probably a ways down the road. I believe they use Hannants exclusively for their releases.

Cheers,

Russ

Seriously, they asked you for help to make them. I must say i can’t blame them. I have the trailer in my Hannants cart for my next prder and will be wathing out for the other kits. And i have all your info as well, so should have no excuses.

Sounds cool, Bish. I’m looking forward to your build.
