Landscape material help-diorama

I’m attempting to build a highway crash scene in HO scale. I’ve got a wood base but needed help with the materials to make the area on the sides of the highway. I’ve read that Celluclay works well, but where can you find it? I have plaster of paris. Will that work just as well? And do I need to mix white glue with the mix for it to adhere better? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the FSM Forums [#welcome]. Celluclay should be available from any shop that caters to model railroading. I believe it’s also available from Walthers. In my experience it works far better than plaster of paris. No need to mix white glue with it, as it adheres to wooden surfaces very well.

Hello Ned, Welcome to the forum. It sounds like Rick has dispensed some sound advice. Your job is something that I always thought would be a great job.

Howdy neighbor!

Hi and welcome. I have used Celluclay and it works fine. I also am a 1/87 scale modeller. I use regular spackle compound used to finish drywall for small areas I want to build up. It sticks to evertything but water and can be sanded easily. BTW, save the sanding dust, it’s great for weathering.

Welcome to FSM!
I’ve used Sculpey for smaller dioramas.

Thanks for the advice and welcome. This is a very helpful site. Ned Thomas
