Lancasters n' Lightnings

Hey

I was pondering on which is the best 1/72 Lancaster kit and the best 1/72 P38 kit.

I’m not a little scale builder and am not sure what the current Lancaster pick would be, but in the near-ish future it will undoubtedly be the forthcoming Hasegawa kit.

For P-38s… I’d go with an Academy kit. I pretty sure that that’s the nicest P-38 in 72nd but, again, I don’t build that scale and could be wrong…

Fade to Black…

I have the Academy 1/72 P-38. Although haven’t start building it, I am impressed by the fine details of it: nice cockpit(with side walls), fine engraved lines, good landing gear as well as landing wells. i am quite confindent it will be a nice build, although in terms of size and shape i don’t know how accurate it is. I would recommand it (although I don’t know how good the older DML is), I am confindent it should better the the older Airfix, Matchbox, Revell and Hasegawa. As for the Lancaster, Hasegawa say they will release a new one soon. If I were you, I would wait for it. As far as I know, if you realy want one now, the only options you have are from Airfix and Revell, don’t know much about them in details, I only know they are old kits.

The Airfix 2nd editions of the Lancaster in all its versions are great.
I have two the B1-B111 and the B111 (special) Dam Buster.
I think that it will be a case of “you pays your money and you makes your choice” when the new model comes out!

The Academy 1/72 Lightning is excellent. I’ve got one on the bench about 1/2 complete & fit & detail are excellent. Much better than the DML or Hasegawa kits. The new 1/72 Hasegawa Lanc should be a winner if you can wait for the Fall release.

Wtahc out for the Academy decals there the only bad thing about the kits as they are thick and stubborn even when using solvents!!!

JoeRugby and I are currentely working on the Revell Lancaster kit…
We will post some progress next days and weeks…
Kit is overal OK, lots of rivets, mixed engraved and raised panel lines, and no inner detail…
We are going to scratch build the cockpit…

Regards,

Jürgen

I’ve built the Hasegawa P-38 and it went together nicely…but I must admit I’m intreagued by the Academy kit. I’ve heard wonderful things about it and I’ve been impressed with the detail they’ve been putting into there latest runs in this scale. Mind you the Hasegawa is no slouch. Either way I think you’ll be in for a treat.
Good luck [:D]
