Lancaster progress

Hi guys, and expecially JoeRugby…[8D]

I’ve started working on my Lanc today, as I’ve build it before, I know the minors…
Didn’t do very much, actually[V]…
Filling those stupid little windows on the fuselage maid me crazy !!!
Just filled them all with Revell Plasto, and let dry a night.
Soaked the canopy and other transparanties in Sols Plus (Belgian Future), to remove some scratches and make it look thinner…
More progress will follow…[:D]

Regards,

Jürgen

PS: How is it going Joe ???

Hey,

No posts? Come on Joe !!

Hey there Jurgen,

Sorry I was away for the weekend[:I]…I have been working on the pit mostly. I have added the pilot side framework and have begun work around the front turret and bomb aimers position. After cutting away the “floor” in the front turret I noticed some serious gaps. Lots of Squadron green putty in there. I have not started on the exterior yet. Will fill in the windows with Porc-a-Filler.

I ordered the Pavla canopy and turrets from Meteor Products only to find out that they are out and have no idea as to when they will be available.[V]

I am also working on the pilots position. Decided to use the kit seat. Just cut the top off and will add my own armor plate. The instrument panel is going to be tough too. I need to get Mike Grant’s instruments decals for the panel.

It sounds like a lot of progress but really is not. I am flipping between this and a Pro-Modeller 1/72 ME 262A…maybe I will put photos up of both kits…

Hey! Where’s the pics?

Hang in there mucker…not too much to shoot photos of right now…will take some tonight and have up tomorrow under this thread…

Which lancaster variant are you building?what kit?

Jurgen and I are building the Revell 1/72 Dam Buster Lancaster. My kit was actually a rebox of the Revell by Advent. The kit is more along the lines of a toy. Plenty of scratchbuilding opportunity. I just wish there were more AM parts for this variant. Canopy and turrets I have found…not much else though…

The first is the pilot side interior. The Squadron Grren Putty towards the front fills in a divot that was part of the molding. I used a quick swipe of whatever color I grabbed to check the effect. Pleased so far but need to continue with the framing into the nose and “clean up” as well.

This is the starboard half with the Porc-a-Filler going into the windows. The windows are too deep for scale. They look as if the were painted over from some of the reference material I have. I will be trying to get a slight “ghost” image of the window. Again this needs to be cleaned up considerably…

And just for inspiration sake…

Be gentle this is my first scratchbuilding attempt and I did say that this is EARLY in the process…

Hey Joe, [8D]

I was also on holiday this week, I’m just returned…

Update:

I’m not going to put lots of framing in the cockpit as that isn’t very good visible…
All interior is painted Revell anthracite and drybrushed with silver…
I’ve put a longer piece of plasiticard on the cockpit floor, and I’m making a scratchbuild panel with some Airfix pieces on it…
I’m going to place some Airfix pilots in the cockpit to, cause to Revell ones look kind off silly[:D]
I’m using the kits canopy and turrets.
Just saw that Joe’s kit has a kind of beige colour and mine is dark green…

Regards,

Jürgen

PS: I’ll post some pics to, in a new topic

Sounds like a cool project, hope to see more soon!

Cool project indeed!! Looking forward to seeing these come together, thanks!! [:)]

Take care,
Frank

Thanks for the encouragement all!!! I have toyed with the idea of getting the conversion for a Grand sSlam bird, since Jurgen is doing the Dam Buster. Would be cool to see a Lanc in a daylight scheme, as the Grand Slam ships were.

I try to read something that paralles or dovetails with a current project. So I am currently reading “Hardest Victory” about Bomber Command. 617 Squadron was really something else…many of you already know that they did much more than bust dams…Rather than smart bombs that had smart bombers, not the machine, but the men in the machine…

Looking good Joe. Should be a fun learning experience. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

sounds like a greta project and I hope to see more progress soon!
