Lancaster/British camo color

I searched here and online, but can’t find a good answer to what Tamiya paint I can use to mix the British RAF dark green and flat earth for the camo scheme. Everyone uses gunze or polyscale paints. I have just about every Tamiya acrylic available (which does include Flat Earth and Dark Green but they just don’t look right at all), and a good stock of MM enamels just not those special enamel II pallette of colors for the RAF. Anyone knows the Tamiya colors I can use or should I really just take a trip to the not so local hobby shop and pick up some more MM which i probably will use once and then leave there to expire on the shelf?

Hi, Ryan,

Taiya Acrylic XF.52 and XF.61 (Flat Earth and Dark Green, respectively) are what the esteemed Mr. Frederiksson recommends, but to me, XF.52 is too red, and XF.61 not brown enough. I use Humbrol 29 and 163 which, under 3 or 4 coats of Future and 2 or 3 coats of matt varnish, seem to me to be pretty much spot on.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thanks Chris for the reply. Yea, I feel the same way. They just didn’t look like any of the finished works I have seen so far. The hobby shop close to me only stocks MM enamels and Tamiya acrylics, which is why i mostly have those. The other shop had some gunze colors too but it’s too late to build up another stock of those eh… Maybe I will get those MM RAF paints and try to use dark yellow or some other color adding to the Tamiya colors to match those. My good airbrushes handle acrylics better.
