Lacquer finish question

I finally got a good finish on a Ferrari, but sure as the world as soon as I got my last wet coat on, there was a spec of something right in the middle of the hood! I wet sanded down about 4 coats and thought I had it. I couldn’t see it, and I couldn’t feel it, and It is still there! Should I bite the bullet and sand all the way down to the plastic and just redo the entire hood, or can I get by with just an area of about a quarter? I’m so disappointed, because it was the lacquer finish I’ve ever done.

Unfortunately, I’d recommend redoing the whole hood. I was taught even on full size cars to just do the whole panel. Otherwise overspray will be rough and may be worse than the flaw you are trying to touch up. Overspray goes on dry, and dry is rough.

Use "Scratch Doctor from NU Finish .Polish away.

Hi :

If the speck of whatever goes down that deep , then I would recommend sanding it down as Don said and do it over .

When it’s still there that far down, there’s only one thing to do, strip it clean and do it over.
