KV-1 & KV-2 Groupbuild? Start in early 2006

With all the new Trumpeter KV kits on market, I’m very eager to jump on mine after the holidays and was wondering if anyone might be interested. I’d say let anyone with Tamiya kits join also. Should be some variation with the different types and green or whitewash schemes.

If anyone hasn’t seen the Trumpeter kits, they are sweet and only cost $25. The one feature I really like is the single long run with sag for the top instead of 40-50 indies to piece together.

Any interest? [:)]

Yeah! Great idea tigerman! I’ll join in, I’m going to be getting trumpeters new KV-1 soon. So yeah, great idea!

This is a great idea. I have an old Tamiya kit with some AM that I’d like to build. Sometime after January would be good.

I’m in.

This would be perfect, as i’ve just invested in a 1/72nd PST KV-1A [:)]

Glad to see some interest. I have the KV 1 heavy cast turret, which I believe is a C. Always thought it a brute of a tank, especially against the Mk III’s and IV’s. We could start Feb.2 which was end of the Battle of Stalingrad. This would allow me to finish a build or two before that.

Heres a link for some good photos of KV 1 and 2s there captured so thats another way you could go

http://beute.narod.ru/

its got all other AFVs in there not only KVs

comparing the tamiya kv-1C and the heavy cast turret from trumpeter they are just about the same, so yea, guess it is a C…

I am debating whether to wait for the trumpeter type B with those bolt-on applique armor or take the tamiya kit’s turret and combine it with a trumpeter hull or just make the tamiya one with the eduard pe set i got and use a set of vinyl tracks from trumpeter (way much better in quality)… I guess I will keep on debating over that until the GB starts next year.

Count me in for this one. I’ve got a Trumpeter KV-1 and KV-2 waiting to be built

Glad to see the continuing interest. Yeah, I just ended up with the Heavy Cast turret, because my LHS just happened to have one in-stock. I actually wanted an earlier version. Who knows, if I like the build, maybe I’ll get an earlier one later.

Tough choice Westcon on which one-eh? I don’t believe I’ve seen any 1’s built here yet, but I have seen a few 2’s.

I would be interested but is this just for the trumpeter & tamiya kits? The trumpeter kit is nice but that leaves us braille scalers out.

If you open it up some, how about the KV-85 (85mm gun on the KV-1S hull) and the KV-122 (122mm gun on the 1S hull)? Could the KV-8 and KV-9 be considered too?

Here is a link of reviews on the PST KV series (ontheway website)

Nothing wrong with variation in scale and companies. Forgot about Eastern Express too. Hmmm, it did kind of morph into the IS series didn’t it?

Thanks for the link, some good shots in there.

I suggest we make this one run a bit. My own selfish motivation here, but it’ll be the first time I use any major AM parts. I have a Hussar (I believe) roadwheel set, a JS models cast turret, and I’ll be scratchbuilding sheet aluminum fenders, supports, and whatever other little parts I think of.

You’re a glutton for punishment Zoran, but it will look amazing I’m sure. Mine will be ho-hum OOB. This kit seems to have what it takes. For anyone that cares, Trumpeter is releasing yet another KV-1 version next year. Check out Perth.

Ah, just saw the Perth listing. It’s this version that I’ll be converting the Tamiya kit into.

Actually, if you go to www.rollmodels.com they are only $18.75. All of the trumpeter 1/35th kits, not just the KV-1 and 2s. I too have some interest in this GB. I’m planning on geting the KV-1 simplified turret soon so the timing is right. I’m all for opening it up to include others on the KV chasis too. I just got the PST KV-85 w/ PART pe.

I might be interested if I get a KV by the time ya ll start. Sounds interesting since I’ve only built one Russian subject.

Hi Guys,
Count me in on The KV-1 & KV-2 Group Build. Was Feb. 2 2006 going to be the start date?

Thanks,
JOEY[:D]

Well, Joey I was going by the historical significance of the date. Anybody have a better time feel free to interject. I’m open, but prefer some time early next year.

Fletcher, you are correct. I was going by my LHS price, but you’re right, on-lines have it at that price.

What’s significant about that date, just out of curiosity?

IMO, that sounds ok enough. Just make it run a little longer then, as I don’t think I’ll have time 'till late Feb.
