The flash got a little wonky but these are not the final shots. heavy weathering wil;l be completed when the ground work is being done. Working on the figgies now.

Marc - thank you. I don’t think I will have them hooked up, although this has crossed my mind as I am still pondering how I am going to lay this out.
Karl - thank you. I haven’t seen one of these built in a while as well, in fact for a looooooong time. The kit was in the stash when I started the s.IG.33 and decided to expand the scene. It will get good and filthy once I figure the color of the groundwork and how wet\dry it will be.
Working on the figgies now in the diorama thread so check it if you all want to take a peak. Ill have some more shots up later this evening.

Kits look nice. My only question would be your choice of base coat for the Protze and the Gun. German dark grey was almost black. Your photos make the grey seem almost a medium grey. Just a thought for you here.
Roy - the flash is deceiving, it has been painted in German Dark Grey and dry brushed with a lighter shades of the same. I think I need to change the background from black to blue or white when photographing anything painted in the German Grey color. I’m still futzing around with the camera too. I eventually have to re-photograph all my completed work when I get it figured out.

Both look real good Bob. I know zero about the s.IG.33 but I’m wondering if the Protze was ‘beefy’ enough to pull that? (If that is your intent)
The Tamiya kit, altho the only game in town, is a real joy to build (IMHO). I built one over 23 years ago and still take a look at it every-so-often. Still holding up well under glass too.

The dio can be perceived two different ways. The Protze could have in the event of needing it deployed been taken to the area by the Protze if it were the only vehicle available at the time of transport…could have happened. I see it as if a horse pulled the first variant in which the wheels of the s.IG.33 were different and no braking system was employed, the weight on this version cant vary all that much, hence again if a horse could pull it a 6x4 vehicle certainly would be able to IMO. What say you???
Also it will be poised in the dio with troops unloading items and such with the gun moved into place and being set up.

The official weight on the sIG 33 gun was 1,800 kgs or 4,000 lbs. The “horse” variant would’ve been pulled by multiple horses and not just a single animal. [;)] The Krupp Protze official capacity was 1,000 kgs or just over 1 ton, so the sIG 33, at almost double the weight, would’ve posed a serious strain for it even moving it short distances. The Protze only had a 60 hp engine and was originally intended as the towing tractor for light pieces like the PaK 36 which is why you don’t see it used much for towing duty after the earlier campaigns and why production on it halted in 1942. Having said all that, seeing one “in the area” of a sIG 33 isn’t that far-fetched as a soft-skin vehicle if you’re looking to add character to the dio that way…I just wouldn’t personally choose to show it physically towing the gun.

Bill - agree on all points and the Protze was not intended to be “towing” the gun in place, although it was a thought but the Protze will be off to the side with troops and some unloading material

Nice combo. I would suggest using a slightly different (lighter or darker) shade of grey for one piece or the other…just to add some variety. Chances are real good that these two pieces of equipment would have been painted in two different places and suffered different weathering environments.
I like that s.IG.33 Bob. It looks so WW I. There is just something neat about it.

Iain - thank you. No weathering has been done as of yet and the flash has drowned out any tonal differences. All will be weathered in due time when the ground work for the dio is ready.
Eric - Thanks brother, it does look so WWI doesnt it. I love this little critter. I want to get the AFV one with the woooden spoke wheels and some 1/35 scale horses and have them pulling it. THAT would be a cool dio project.
