Kong, Ape, Gorilla?

Does anyone know of a larger scale figure of an ape, gorilla or King Kong? I want to do a King Kong diorama in 1/72 or 1/48, but I can’t seem to find anything even close.
Thanks, Scott

Try those zoo animal mixes that kids play with. They’re like the green army men. That would be like 1/32ish. about right for 1/72 depending on how big you want him.

Geometric’s vinyl kit is in 1/35th scale. I’ve seen it with 1/72 zulu warriors and it looks just like the scene where he breaks through the gate. Kong’s size fluctuated with however large he needed to appear. It’s also the best Kong kit out there. MacFarlane’s Toys Kong is about the same size, but more stylized. It’s really good though.

Geometric Design closed their doors, but I think someone bought their molds and will be re-issuing their kits.

GEOmetric has indeed been purchased; the new Web site is at http://geometricdesign.net/ and the Kong kit is listed under “vinyl” for $70. The guy who owns the new GEO, Al Matrone, also frequently lists the kits on eBay and they sell, bagged, for a lot less. His eBay ID is phoenix-357.

A little off-topic, but isn’t Peter Jackson’s next movie going to be “King Kong?”

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate the help. I knew I could count on this forum.

For what it’s worth, the biggest Kong model I know of is the vinyl version that used to be made by Dark Horse, sculpted by Randy Bowen. I’ll guess it’s somewhere around 1:30 scale. Kong himself is probably 15 inches from head to toe.

Burroughs Model Works markets a version of Kong from the 1977 movie that might be in 1:35. I’m not sure, but I’ve seen pics of a Jim Bertges dio and he used some small figures with the beastie.

Jessica Lange sat in the palm of his hand - the width of his hand should be roughly equal to the height of the figure you’re using. I don’t know of any kits though.

[#offtopic] Did you ever wonder in the original movie, if the islanders were trying to keep Kong OUT of the village, why did they build doors in the wall big enough for him to walk through?

Excellent point!
Why have doors at all?
Must’ve been in his contract as “Island God.”

VERY GOOD POINT! Never thought of that one!LOL
Maybe he was welcome there until he started running off with ALL the virgins!LOL[:D]

Too funny!
I hadn’t thought of that either. [:)]

Maybe the villagers raised Kong! Also, how come he was the only gorilla on the island?

Well, there had to be another, a Queen [:X] Kong, to account for the sequel, “Son of Kong” [:-,] The question [?] is, did she kow about his thing for blondes?[:0]

Well maybe she did and that is why the sequel stars his son and not him[:D]

Troutman,
Thanks for the info on the Burroughs Model Works Kong. I think I like those versions better than others. Thanks!

Glad I could help.
