KLM 747-400 landing at SXM

Greetings all,

Building this has been a dream in my head for a long time, so on Sep. 2nd I decided to make it a reality; finished it at 4am this morning!

I used the Airfix 1/300 B744 as the subject and Flyteline Models new MyDIO kit#1 to mount it. The landscape was accomplished using styrofoam and the water using Testors Clear Cement & Windshield Maker. All the other details were scratchbuilt, so no aftermarket parts were harmed. [:)] Enjoy!

FRANK!!! Perfect! Gorgeous! So REALISTIC!!! It took me A couple of minutes to figure it out. GENIUS!!![tup][tup][tup][bow]

P.S. At first I thought that I was looking at photos!

VERY IMPRESSIVE! Nice work Frank!

Well done[bow] that is so cool. Have you ever seen the videos on you tube of airplanes landing there?(its pretty neat). It would be cool to go to that beach and see somthing like that.

Thanks guys! [:)]

Infact, it was those YouTube videos that inspired this project! [;)]

Take care,

Frank

Wow what a fantastic job. I have to agree that it looks like the real airliner landing. You should be extremely proud of this build and set of photographs.

That is totally amazing.

I love the effect you create with the mirror.

Karl

Brilliant!

I was just looking at those youtube vids the other day!

[#ditto] VERY nicely done, and impressive display! [tup]

That’s the combination of craftsmanship and imagination that we all continue to strive to achieve. Fabulous build.

Whoa! That is simply soo-perb!

Thanks fellas, [:)]

The subject against the first surface mirror causes the brain to digest a whole scene; even when you know the mechanics of it, you catch yourself being spellbound at the illusion, especially in real life because of the “Matrix” affect it also has! The pictures don’t do that part of it justice.

The21 figures were scalpeled from sheet styrene with tiny drops of the Testors Clear Cement for proportion (all fit on the face of a quarter), the fence post and umbrella poles are cut sections of Christmas Tree ornament hangers, the fence is from a fine mesh make-up bag my daughter didn’t want anymore, the trash can by the umbrellas is from the guts of a watch, the umbrellas are from typing paper, the walls are sanded sprus, and the guard rail is the sanded-down upper half of the window openings on the 144 Airfix 727 cutaway. wink.gifOh, and the runway is a sheet of fine grain sandpaper. biggrin.gif

Thanks again, [:)]

Frank

Great Work![tup]

Nice work The effect is awesome

Impressive work as usual Frank! I’d have never guessed that the kit was 1/300. [:O]

Kevin

Thanks fellas!

Here’s another photo from a little different angle and contrast than the first one, but you can see the whole plane:

I watched it drop the jaw of one of the local Club Show judges today, who works at the LHS, which if it all falls apart tomorrow, would have made the effort well worth it! LOL!

Thanks again,

Frank
