Kitchen Foil

Hi, I have a question about using regular kitchen foil on models. Can anybody tell me what kind of glue is used to attach the foil to the model? Also, is this best used when doing an entire plane or does it work pretty good for small coverage too? My apologies if this has been asked before…I was searching through posts but was having no luck. Thanks in advance.

Jerry;

The Micro Scale makes Micro Metal Adhesive (it’s sort of milky like elmers glue) that you can pick up at your local hobby shop or try www.squadron.com or any other favorite online store. You basically cut pieces of the foil out, apply the glue with a brush and then burnish it down on the model with a q tip or took pick. Also, here’s a link to Roll models catalogue for Micro Scale items

Try Mona Lisa, Metal Leaf Adhesive Size. You can get it at Micheal’s for about 2 bucks.

It’s a small bottle 2 FL. OZ. And it has a photo of Mona Lisa on it. Don’t get the spray !

Brush it on the BMF

Good Luck

I use the Mona Lisa stuff too. I works pretty good, you can clean it off with rubbing alcohol too. You need to use a soft bristle brush when brushing the glue on the foil. I load up the brush and paint down the middle of the foil. Then go back and brush across the line of glue 90 degrees to the stripe.This spreads it out pretty well and is quick too. Once you’ve got it spread out don’t go back over it it starts to skin pretty quick and it will get rough. flip the foil over until your ready to cut out some pieces to keep the dust off of it just be sure not to let the glued part touch anything. I rub it down with a rubber handled file from radio shack that way you don’t mark up the foil.
