After years of aircraft modelling, I’m going to begin delving more into armor.
Any kits you guys suggest for a good starter kit to get my feet wet?
Revell’s 1/72 Pz IV … Not expensive, not too many parts, highly detailed, first step with multi-part tracks. Can be done over a week end! Excellent kit, great subject with lots of info available, even on the net.

I recommend Tamiya kits for the ease with which they go together. Their older kits while not 100 % accurate are inexpensive, cover a variety of vehicles and most hobby shops carry them. I have many of the older kits in my collection and like to detail them as I get better at modeling. If you don’t mind spending extra money, by all means invest in the new Tamiya kits. You won’t be disappointed.
After years of aircraft modeling, you know all the basic stuff on how to put a model together. My advice it to really study the directions so you can paint in sub-assemblies. A Panther’s interleaved wheels are a good example of dificult to paint on the model. For ease of assemblly, simple paint coat, i would go with the Tamiya Stug III. Great kit to start out of the box. For your first shot at amor lean towards a Tamiya kit. Very well engineered making the fit exellent. Dragon makes excellent kits too but the indy tracks will drive you batty. Try Tamiya’s T-34’s, Shermans, or Panthers…all excellent first tries.
TRY THE wALKER m41 OR THE pZKW II, A VERY EASY BUILD AND NOT EXPENSIVE $11 BUCKS LOCALLY. 1/72 SCALE WOULD BE GOOD ALSO, LOTS TO CHOOSE FROM, STAY AWAY FROM THE eASTER eUROPEAN MAKES, BAD FIT AND THEY TURN INTO A PUTTY TANK.
