Finally took the plunge and started using my airbrush (lotsa practice first)
Got the Dark Yellow and Green on - next is the brown (waiting for masking fluid to arrive). Masking was done with silly putty - works great - doesn’t even lift the aber clamps on the hull when removed. I especially like the way the Friul tracks came out after using Blacken-it to chemically weather them.
That looks great.
I will use silly putty om my own KT when I paint it, but I also feared that it would damage the Aber clamps, good to hear that it didn’t cause you any troubles.
Great job on the build-up and the camo. I have to agree with the others that with some weathering…it will look better.
Just one suggestion…you may want to darken the color (or dirty up) of the lower hull sides that can be seen through the upper portion of the tracks and wheels. The present color really stands out.
Looks great! Only one suggestion at this point. I would remove a link or two in the track. Track that loose was guarrenteed to be thrown. Where did you find the stuff to blacken the track? I might try that on my up comming Tiger 1
Dostm, your Tiger is coming along nice. The zimmerite looks good. I look foward to seeing the brown on it. Thanks for sharing.
Armour freek, Silly Putty is a pink putty that looks like chewed bubble gum[with out the teeth marks].[:o)] It comes in a little plastic “egg”.
I used it for the following. http://matt24.fotopic.net/c445765.html
3 pictures shows it used.
Really coming along nicely Brian. The zimmerit is excellently done, even the chipping! also the tracks look great, and as mentioned you might want to pull a link or two out of the track, but I wouldn’t take anymore then that out. The camo is very unusual, I think it’s the color of your green that makes it so striking! Be sure and keep us updated your “King tiger” is sure to be a winner. Semper Fi, mike
Thanks for the comments guys I really appreciate it.
The camo scheme comes from King Tiger Heavy Tank (T. Jentz & H. Doyle). Tom Jentz advised me that the colour plates in this book were pretty accurate. I am adding the brown this weekend and then will redo the green which is too dark
Silly putty (Tricky Putty here in the UK) used to be a big craze when I was a kid, but is hard to find here in the UK (got mine at Woolworths) - you may need to order from the US
looks great man. only suggestion would be to take a pencil n scrape it across the teeth and treads of the tracks to shineum up a little. the camo looks awesome.
On Friday I was able to go to RCMS Shrivenham and shoot 200+ pics of the King Tiger there. I was able to verify that each side has 45 main links ( mine has 44 - friul scale must be out slightly) and that the sag from the front sprocket is exactly how it looks on my KT - here s a pic looking along the track to get an idea. As the tank is only 3ft from a Chieftan and 2ft from a wall I was unable to get a side view
