King tiger progress

Hi everyone,

These are a few quick pics of my Dragon 1/35 King Tiger (Henschell turret). I used Tamiya desert yellow for the yellow, and Gunze Dark earth and RLM 82 for the brown and green. The camo was done freehand then I shaded it with Tamiya Smoke. Then I gave it an all-over light mist of desert yellow to tie it all together. This is my first tank model, so I’d like you to let me know how I went. I’m working on some weathering and paint chipping at the moment, so I’ll have more pics soon.

Hope you like it so far. And, feel free to point out all the flaws [:)].

Great work so far. Excellent job on the camo. Decided to not go with zimmerit?

Thanks mate. I decided not to go with the Zimmerit because I didn’t want to complicate things too much. Maybe if I do another one some day I’ll give it a go.[tup]

Looks like it is coming along nicely! Great job

Daniel,

Looks good so far. IMHO, the fading is a little over applied, but this is just a matter of your personal preference. Construction looks solid! Long Live the KING!

Your well on your way to being a member of the Dark Side. I’m assuming that Tamiya smoke shading came over form A/C building. I must say that it is effective. Looking forward to the end product.

Looking good! Can’t wait the see it done.

Nice progress. Is this Tamiya smoke a clear type tint coat? This is the first I’ve seen the smoke color. Thanks for shareing.

hey pingtang, it looks great, cant wait for the weathering pictures. i have the same 1/35 King Tiger kit from Dragon but i havent started it yet. did u have any fit problems w/ the kit or did it go together smoothly?

Good one mate!

Thanks for the kind words everyone,

crockett - It looks alot more faded in the pics than it does in real life. I can probably say that I’ve overdone the paint chipping now though. Ah well…I’m learning.

tigerman - This is the first time I’ve used Smoke for shading. Didn’t work too bad. I probably would have been better if I had of shaded with darker shades of the camo colours. I’m too lazy though…

matthew9 - Yeah, Tamiya X-19 smoke is a tinted clear coat. It’s a dark grey/brown sort of colour.

psstoff995 - It’s been a very smooth build so far. Even the tracks look like they’ll go together pretty easily. Good luck with your build.

that’s awesom work so far pingtang even without the chipping and weathering. can’t wait for the weathering pics.

Very nice work, well done!

I like it!![tup][tup]. I like the subtle blending of the camo scheme with the dark yellow. I never really liked a stark contrasting camo scheme. To me it defeats the purpose of camouflage. Nice work ping.

Thanks very much for the comments fellas. I’m going to get some more pics up when I’ve done a bit of pastel weathering and given it a flat coat.

thanks a lot pingtang, and again it really looks great, cant wait for the pastel job pics

looks really good so far man… can’t wait for the finished kitty!
