King Tiger Progress

Here are some pics from my slow going Battle of the Bulge King Tiger. The kit is Tamiya’s 1/35th Ardennes woth CMK barrel and Eduard PE. Still need to touch up the paint and where the fenders are, I think needs to be red oxide color not dunkelgelb. Suggestions and comments welcome

I think I may need to make some minor adjustments to the camo scheme to preseve continuity from hull to turret, now that I look at it.

Well I can see why you opted for the AM barrel. I like the camo job so far and the build is looking good. Keep us posted.

[:D]looking real good Jason,keep it up[:D]

Thanks. The AM barrel needed some surgery. Used the kit mantlet and removed some of the length with a hack saw. A dull hacksaw. Took forvever, but that was done around midnight one night, so I couldn’t go get a new blade

I like! I always was a sucker for an 88. Are you using model master acrylics? The colors look absolutley perfect to me. Do you lighten with a drop or 2 of flat white? I’ve heard that keeps the colors from appearing too dark when applied to a scale model. I read it in an ols FSM.

I don’t think I’d mess with the camo Jason! It actually looks pretty darn nice, and you know better then me that so much of the German camo was applied in the field, and continuity was not that much of a concern. Great progress so far. Semper Fi, mike

Great progress pictures. I agree with you about the red needs to be more red oxide. You midaswell go ahead and do it because it will always be nagging at you if you don’t. Don’t totally repaint, just spray right over where the red is.

Looks great, Jason!

jason, looks really good! nice cammo job. What kit are you using? I am doing a King Tiger captured American from a photo for the “Under New Management” Build and I’m trying to figure out what kit I should get.

Jason, Nice job. I wouldn’t mess with the camo too much. Sometimes it’s like trying to even out a mustache, and by the time you’re done, you have a bare lip[:D]. Keep the pics coming. Pete

Thanks guys. The kit is the Tamiya Ardennes kit and the dunkelgelb and rotbraun are Tamiya acrylics and the grun is model master, all straight out of the bottle. The whole model was first sprayed Tamiya Hull Red to represent the red oxide basecoat. Then I went through and, using a “painting in the field” mentality, sprayed the camo only in the places I felt they could easily reach (since they wouldn’t have the benefit of painting with out the tracks/wheels

Looking good! I agree the camo looks good. Keep it up.

Very nice king kitty. How is the kit? I was about to pick up the same one last time GM had a sale, but I held off till I heard some details. Any interior details in the box?

No interior details, but the kit is very nice. The fit is excellent and it comes with extra figures and a motorcycle. Very nice, but pricey

Nice work Jason

Steve

Thanks Steve. Very slow progress

Beautiful Camo Jason. Top notch build. I know the “Fun” you had witht he PE on that one.

Ted

Fun wasn’t the only F word tossed around. Thanks by the way!

You talkin Latin again Jason? LOL. Semper Fi, mike
