Ki 61 Hein 'Tony'

G’day Folk’s.

This 48 scale ‘Tony’ is weather beaten, as I tried 2 different idea’s on chipping the paintwork, The entire aircraft was covered in Tamiya AS-12, when dry the underneath was all masked off and the canopy, the anti glare panel was painted, when dry was masked over and the Dark Green was applied to the wings and fuselage. After the decals were applied and settled, the fuselage area was scratched with a tooth pick, to chip the green paintwork and decal edge, the wing was chiped using a file, then lightly rubbed with an emery board.

Then the entire model was coated in Dullcoat.

Nice work, Rob. Good looking Tony.

It doesnt have Aussie markings on it, what happened [^]

Looks like it’s seen some action Rob, nice job.[tup][tup]

It looks like youv’e attacked it with an angle grinder mate. In other words it looks just right. It looks good.

lobbie it was worth the wait. great looking bird my friend.

Never seen a Tony that beat up, but hey, whatever floats your boat. Nice build. Thanks for sharing.

You just proved that the Japanese paint jobs were really lacking[^] Nice job, keep up the good work[:D]

Richard

Nice build there Rob, can’t wait to see the Shinden. Have to try that paint work on my Tamiya 1/32 Zero.

Beautiful job on a beautiful plane, Rob.

Your paint job and weathering is amazing…well done!

Regards, Dan

Looks good, very nice effect. Now you need to build a Ki-100 to go with it.

Great looking Ki 61, I really like the weathering job you did on it.
Thats what I like about the Axis aircraft, they were often painted in interesting paint schemes and had that ‘‘well used’’ look to them.

Matrixone

Excellent work, Rob! The weathering is fantastic.
One correction: it’s “Hien” (“Swallow”), not “Hein”
Sorry! You spend all day translatin’ this kinda stuff, and it just comes out!

Looks really good. Is that background some kind of Japanese “super carrier”? Love the finish on this one. Very realistic.

Guy’s,

Thanks to everyone for your comments regarding this build subject

Rob.

A great looking Aircraft, thanks for the pics.

Looks like it’s been cruising around in the salt air of the south Pacififc… just right.

Very nice looking Hien. Great job on the weathering.

good build, and thanks for the pics.
