Eduard 1/48 Nakajima Ki-115. Purpose built kamakazi plane. Primarily made from wood and steel the plane was made as cheap and crude as could be and still accomplish it’s mission. The airframe was designed to be adaptable for using any engine the IJA had available and was originally fitted with the obsolete Ha-115 radial.
The main gear was designed to either be jettisoned or fall off after take off, I don’t know which for sure. The pilot was not supposed to be returning.
There is only one example of the plane left in existance as far as I can find out. It’s in pieces in storage at the Nat’l Air and Space Museum.
The kit is neat but very delicate. The sprues both had mold shift that created a nasty step on all of the very delicate parts that was a battle throughout the build. I wanted to do something quick and a little different so this came out of the stash.
Paint is Alclad over gloss black. Flat coat is Polyscale. No weather as only a little over 100 were ever built and none of them seen service. And if they had the best way to weather one would be to show it mashed into a firey ball of twisted metal. Who needs a kit for that?
Glad it’s done. Now off to the Mustang I just started with the experimental NMF I’m planning.
Now THAT is a stunning build hk! Don’t see many of these here on the forums, you have pulled this one off beautifully. You should be VERY proud of this one. [tup]
SHe’s an exciting and awesome build! I think that is the first aircraft actually designed to use different types of engines in that matter! Ver well done![8D]
Very nice job! Don’t see this kit too often. I have this one in the stash, It’s nice to see a finished one.
I pulled mine out, and I see what you mean when you describe the kit as “delicate.” My kit doesn’t appear to have the molding problems that yours did, though.
Very nice job. Love the finish. You really done a cracking job for sure. The base is awesome as well. Have you considered doing a toot on making a base like yours?
I personally think a model displayed on base looks far better than on the kitchen table etc.
