This was another fun kit, strictly OOB due to my time restraints. This was my first “major” mottling which I did by hand…90 minutes with a Sotar 20/20 AB. The Hinomaru’s on the wings are decals, but the white homeland defense bands, fuselage hinomarus and yellow ID wing stripes were masked and sprayed.
Here she is:
This was a neat little kit. Thanks for looking. I may add an aerial once the paint completely dries.
Thanks Andrew, Roger, Rick, Steven, Mike, Darwin and Mark:
Mike: This was one of those builds that is EXACTLY like the on-line reviews say it is going to be: Quite a bit of flash, spartan cockpit detail, no alignment pins on the fuselage (but the cockpit “self aligns it”) on the down side, a lot of exterior detail, including superb fabric replication on the control surfaces, no major fit issues and few parts.
It requires a bit of modeling, but, hey, that’s what we do. I have no complaints aobut the kit. I paid about $12 for it in Japan a few years back. I’m sure the Hasegawa kit is nicer, but the price is higher, too. In the end it looks like a Ki-45!
Darwin:
I think you’re right aboutt he panel lines. I mixed the oil wash considering the mottle colors, and when I got to the white defense bands, the contrast is a little stark. Lesson learned on this one.
“Wow!” doesn’t quite say enough for me, Charles. That is a very impressive model. First-rate paint job, the assembly looks flawless, and plus I’m a huge fan of unusual/seldom-seen subjects, so this one is especially nice to look at. Very nicely done my friend! [tup]
How about Your Over The Topness [bow] that is and incredibly cool scheme. Oh yeah… and nice try … getting us to believe that you never did free hand camo like that. You must just be posting those planes somewehre else [:-^]
I really appreciate your kind words Andy, Guy, raider83, Mike, John, Aaron, Marc and Frank. It means a lot coming from you guys.
Mike:
I know what you mean…I like the “unusual” aircraft, myself. THe ones you don’t see in every display case. (Disclaimer: I still love the 109’s, Spitfires, Mustangs, etc.)
Marc and Frank:
Aww, shucks, guys. You’re making me blush. THis isn;t my first time to hold an airbush, just the first time to hand spray a major mottle scheme like this. Man, was I nervous, too. Especially once you get going…at any moment one splotch from a semi-clogged tip could ruin it. On the plus side, now that I’ve got one under the belt, I’ve got more courage to try something else, like the spaghetti camo on a Ju-88, etc.
