Karl Gerat 60 cm mortar

just got the camo done on this mortar today ( DML kit ) put a scale soldier next to the shell supplied with the kit ! The thing is bigger than a 20 mm in this scale ! The real shells were 2.17 tons each with an incredible rate of fire of 6 rounds per hour ! Talk about work huh ?! They served with the 833rd artillery units against sevastopol in 1942 . They weighed in at about 124 tons and had special rail cars made to transport them (2… one at each end !) Still have weathering work to do to it ( haven’t even started that yet ) , but just thought I would post pics of this intereresting gun.

Good job. Thanks for sharing.

Are you going to do a Diorama?

WOW…Looks great…Spector

I bought the DML 1/35 scale Leopold RR cannon and hope it comes out as good as yours…

Regards, Dan

Wow!!! good job!!!

In the top picture, maybe that power outlet in the background is for the hydraulics of the ‘Karl’?

Glenn

Whoa! Wouldn’t want to be on the recieving end of THAT!

Those nazi’s had some weird stuff, eh?

I understand that the Volkswagen was built to fit in this beast in case they ever ran out of shells. [;)][;)][:P][:-,]

Nice job spector … this is one huge kit.

Thanks for sharing !!!

Looks real good spector!! Post us some more pics when you finish the weathering on it!

Eric

[^][^]Excellent work spector,

Im still working on mine. I intend to paint mine in grey (Loki V version)[D)]not game to try the camo version at this time[D)]. Will try to post photo when I finish it.

Thanks for sharing

Good job on the camo. I know that it is a huge kit. Saw it already. The soldier really gives us a good idea of the size of that thing. Should look even better when weathered.

When you are at it. Try to weather than power outlet, too. Looks too plain, to me. LOL.

Nice work. Looking forward to seeing it finished.

That is one impressive build. My wife saw it and told me not to even think about it. I think a diorama of that monster would have to be a permanent display on my coffee table!

Man, you’ve been busy Shawn. First your Panther, now this. Pretty cool looking model. NIce job on the camo. World At War had a few scenes of this baby in action.

All: notice on the power outlet how it is sunk halfway into the countertop ( I can’t even use the bottom outlet) Nice attention to detail by my apartment owner there ![:D] Obviously not a modeler huh ? I had this kit almost done prior to the panther build , but set it aside til I got the kitty done ( the deadline and all) so all I really had to do to it was paint and put the tracks on . It really was an easy kit to build but there was some patching to do after ( no aftermarket barrel for it yet as far as I could tell , so a real nasty seam there , and was tough with the riffled barrel to putty on the inside without ruining the rest of it !) those link tracks are also nasty , haven’t done those since my M-60 a ways back . The decals for this machine are not correct ,"Loki " is the proper version here , not " Ziu " , as I lost the proper ones to brittle decals ( they just cracked and fell apart ) I have no idea what dragon does to thier decals , but they are almost always like that [V][B)] Will post pix when it is finished! Shawn

Spector, … Excellent job pal… I love the look of this beast. How is it to build…?
Looking for a Diorama now…

now thats one big bullet lol. excellent job

All: thanks for the compliments , I would definatly reccomend this kit … pretty fun to build actually Lotsa big parts , as opposed to that panther which I needed a microscope to do the tool racks [:(!] The only complaint is with the decals , typical DML decal prob but other than that it was a breeze ( I may have to get that big rail gun too [8D]!!!) Now If I could only find room in my display case [;)] Oh check out this spec on it ( the gerat gun ) firing pressure on it was 700 tons and had to be done remotely because of the danger to the crew! … the barrel had to be switched out after around 60 rounds .

Looks Great! Thanks for posting pix!

Ron

Great looking Karl. Thanks for sharing.

Looks Great.

I supposed I should start on mine. I’ve had one half put together under my bed for about 5 months.
