Kamov Ka-27 ASW Helicoper - 1:72 Zvezda kit

Hi all

A trio of sneak peek pics of my just finished Zvezda 1:72 Kamov Ka-27 Helix ASW Helicopter. I took these whilst the Kamov was residing in it’s new home. I am pretty pleased about how it turned out, as it is difficult oft times to get a convincing finish with a single colour model, without creating a pathwork quilt effect.

Flat coat was finished on Sunday morning using Pollyscale clear flat acrylic and in the afternoon I did final detail painting and added replacement fuse wire step-rungs (the kit offerings were out of scale, chunky and entirely wrong!)

Canopy and side window masking was removed and the blunt end of a shaped toothpick used to clean up some errant paintwork. The window wipers then needed to be painted as well.

I had to use a brass tube section to correct the sit of the rotor head, this has really improved the final look of the model.

The whole model was then treated to some selective pastel chalk weathering, which really lifted the model more.

The flat coat reduced the wash effect somewhat, even removing a little here and there, but nothing really bad and certainly something I am not annoyed about.

Still, here it is, so I hope you like what you see. I will post better pics later this week when I can set up my photo corner.

Time to get on with my BoB and SF Ground Assault GB entries.

i been wanting to do that for a long time now for my asw collection. even tho i have only 2 in it right now how easy was this build madmike oh yea great looking helo by the way[:D][:D]

Excellent! Very nice work.

I build a lot of older model kits, so if you do not mind cleaning up parts and a little bit of seam work, it builds very well indeed! I certainly intend to build another Zvezda kit, perhaps the Ka-27PS or the Ka-52…

Good looking build you’ve got there. I always think those Russian designs are kinda crazy looking, but that is one sweet helo you’ve got there.

Mike,

Very nice ! you did a great job on the panel accents to make them stick out. That’s a nice kit of a really neat subject.

Chris

Good build, like the subject
