K-3 'November' class submarine

Hi guys!

I decided I’ll build something different from planes and bought Zvezda’s new 1/350 K-3.

As I have no experience whatsoever in building subs, I’d like to know, if anyone has correct painting information. The instructions suggest MM’s Flat Sea Blue, but on a rare photos I have seen, the paint looks more black, or very very dark blue. Also what kind of weathering appears on nuclear subs?

Thanks for your help!

Hi

Try looking at http://submarine.id.ru/thumbs/ its all in russian but there’s the most comprehensive collection of Russian sub pics I’ve found to date. And if any one has other suggestions please share, especially pics of the real Typhoon rudder/screws arrangement.

Weathering is various intensities of rust, ice ( I want to try this sometime) and the water/salt stain marks around the hull when the subs are tied up.

Have fun

So here I am with my first sub model… Still in the making but I like the progress so far…
The blue paint was mixed to match colour of the few colour photos of November class subs

Decals are on…

There is usually (depending on the time of year) a good bit of a seagrowth skirt around the waterline. Below that is a mix of worms and barnacles. Look at the sub in the drydock to the left.

Not to mention that the Novembers all “glowed” in the dark… pretty boats for sure.

So paint it a neon orange and display it under a black lite…

That would be a flourescent blue for the hull. The crew glows green and the wake is orange. Get it right.

Me again

I am trying to identify Russian subs… I have found several sites stating K- numbers and factory numbers but none of them states the conning tower number for each sub… Anyone knows of any good site with that info?
