This has been the worse modeling weekend for me since I have started. I’ve been trying to step up production on a Tamiya NSX, and Tamiya Mercedes CLK GTR for the April Tamiya/Con. It all started yesterday when I went to paint the Mercedes body with white primer, since it is cast in silver. The primer kept drying and sticking very badly to everything. My airbrush just kept clogging up, no matter how much I thinned it. After I gave up on the white primer an hour later(throwing it away for good), I was able to get gray primer to work ok after an hour of cleaning. But it kept getting clogged, so I decided to soak the parts overnight. I have an Aztek airbrush with a plastic body. It was double action, but somehow after the soak it became a single action. The trigger is shot, and it’s a molded body, so I can’t get it apart to fix it…there went my starter airbrush, time to get that Omni 5000!!! Oh, and did I mention that while all of this was going on I was soaking some chromed parts in nail polish remover…a little too late, I found the perfectly round rims, were now the shape of eggs[#wstupid]…and I happened to paint the NSX body the wrong color…[banghead] Hopefully I can get the new NSX kit, and Airbrush by this Fri!!! Always look forward to the future!!! Thanks for letting me vent!
at least your handling everything with a sense of humor. In pasts posts, I have heard of Aztek airbrush owners getting replacements for free. If I recall correctly, they have lifetime guarantees. You may want to check into this. I ditched my Aztek and went back to a Badger.

Yes I had a small misshape today as well, fortunately not on your scale. I had finished painting a ship hull and was moving it for better drying when it slipped and rolled over leaving paint across the kitchen table and slodges and ridges across the hull. At least it won’t take much to sand and do again and a bit of turps and the wife will never know!
For the chromed bits, you may want to try bleach instead…
Hey KIK36-those plastic bodies are a pain to keep clean but don’t give up, try varying your air pressure. White paint is the worse to airbrush-uses very heavy pigments. I use a rattle can if I need white!
Should just be able to write a nice lil note and get a replacement…from what I was told by a “few” local guys who have done some things to thier Azteks, they pretty much have a no questions asked replacement policy.
kik36, Sorry to hear about your troubles but I can tell you what happened with the Aztec. If you soaked the body, that’s what messed you up. You’re not supposed to soak anything but the tips. If that is what you did there is probably a gummed up mass on the spring inside the tip. You can dissasemble the tips, just be very careful with the needle and there is a certain way the tabs line up on head. That will let you clean the spring and inside the head and the needle if it needs it. If you soaked the body you may have melted something inside that wasn’t made for soaking.

Sorry for the troubles you have been going through, kik36. But I am amazed of how you handle the situation and have fun with it. Anyway I hope that you could get through it.
Good luck and have fun.
I’m sorry to hear about your problem. I hope you were able to get everything sorted out.

Thanks everyone…I kinda figured I just ruined the trigger assembly, after finding a statement by Testors Not to soak the body…whoops. Anyways, I ordered the Omni 5000 yesterday, and a new NSX kit because I’m entering the box stock portion, I can’t use aftermarket parts. Believe me, I’m taking it well because I started this thread after countless cursing, and a couple of pints of beer, afterwhich I felt a whole lot better once I put it down on thread!!! Thanks again, and will hopefully post some pics soon!! Happy Modeling
…and no swearing either…
