When you get a deal like this, you just have to tell someone!
Popped into my favorite LHS after work tonight, and in the half-price stack what did I find, but Trumpeter’s 1/35 Op Telic Challenger 2.
For 1,100 yen! That’s right at $10 USD! Didn’t think twice about picking that baby up.
I have Trump’s original Kosovo Chally 2, and a quick peek in both boxes revealed some slight detail differences (turret and suspension parts) in addition to all the new Op Telic armor .
Also, I had thought that the canvas-like material under the side skirts was not included in the Trumpeter kit, but it was indeed there as nicely molded parts.
Anyway, it looks like a good kit. I think I’ll wait for the Tamiya’s Op Telic Chally 2 to come out, then use all three kits (if necessary!) to make a super-duper Challenger 2.[:D]

THey used to have a review of the original plus an updated outlining the new one, but it looks like they amaglamated the two.
I haven’t built either one, but probably will sometime soon. The one reviewed and built up in a recent FSM review article looked really nice.
I’m hoping to find a way to get to a convention this weekend (it’s in a different city. Anyone going to Guelph, Canada, who can give me a ride? )
so hopefully I’ll find something nice too.

Is Tamiya REALLY gonna make one?

Out of curiosity does anyone know if the older Challenger kit you mention is the same one as the Hobby Craft Challenger. i only ask because the Abrams kits are Trumps and i wondered if the Challenger was too. My LHS doesn’t carry many Trumpeter kits in and in fact i have only seen a couple. Hobby lobby has the Hobby Craft kits and i know that at least three of those are reboxed Trumps.
I bet it is. Check on the box; all the HC armor kits I’ve seen here give Trumpeter credit right on the box. “Plastic parts by Trumpeter,” or something to that effect.
Well i’ll be dang! It sure is on the side of my M1A1 [w/t mine plow] box. I had never noticed it before. The HC Challenger sells for about $23 here but i just can’t recall wether it’s a Challenger 1 or 2. The HC/Trumpeter Abrams [with or without the plows] sells for around $18.
If it’s a chally 2, then it’s prob a trumpeter casting. I don’t recall trumpeter ever having created a challenger 1.
Look on he inside of the turret or hull. A lot of the HC kits have the trumpeter logo stamped on the inside
Well i haven’t baought it yet. it will be easy to check the box the next time I go in there. i’m waiting for hobby lobby to do another sale!lol However if they get down to about two challenger’ sthen i 'll have to get it anyway.
