Went down to Super Kid’s Land (gotta love that name!) here in Osaka today, and whaddaya know, they had Trumpeter’s new Mil-24V Hind-E. Now, I haven’t built a helo since high school (Revell’s old 1/35 Cayuse) but I just couldn’t pass this up.
Man-o-man, it’s HUGE!! The box is massive, and stuffed with plastic. It looks great in the box, with excellent detailing and crisp, clean molding.
Here in Japan it’s selling for 10,240 yen (about $97 USD).
Question for the helo experts:
Trumpeter identifies this Hind-E as a Mi-24V. The few reference books I have refer to the Hind-E as Mi-24W.
What’s the difference between the V and the W? Is it actually a different model, or is it just a thing to do with Russian language, like the I and J thing?

As for V and W, V is for Volks and W is for Wagen…[:p]
No just kidding. the letter V in Russian is the english letter ‘B’. the letter W dose’nt have a compatible one letter, but can be pronounced out of couple or several voulse. I’m steel learning my russian…
BTW the letter for the english B, is written in russian as a small english ‘b’ with a ‘-’ (hyphen) attached to the letter at the topjust like a small roof. hope I did’nt confuse you or anyone…[B)]

Yes, I read the canopy has a bit of a seam that needs attention…upon inspection, it is indeed a pretty hefty seam…moreso than on any of the opaque parts! That’s OK…a buddy just sent me a bottle of Future from the States (not to be had here in Japan), so I’ll give it the ol’ sand-polish-Future treatment!
Roger on the Russian…but I’m still confused: the Mi-24V and Mi-24W are different aircraft? Or is it just the lack of a real W in Russian (as transliterated into the English alphabet)?
Oh, I just wish somebody would send me a bottle of Future too, have been looking around for something similar here in Belgium since years.
Meanwhile with all the different bottles that I have baught and tried (without satisfaction) I could actually start a shop myself…[;)]

It turns out that there is no ‘W’ and there is no way to pronounce it! instead there is ‘V’ or ‘U’ like double ‘O’
So it should’nt be Mil-24W bout Mil-24V

I can get something similar to Future here in Germany. It is made by ERDAL and is called Glänzer… It is a blue bottle with a red cap… you shuold be able to find it in the same place you find floor cleaning products [:)]
Trumpeter is a chinese company, and they were in good relations with the former soviet unione, and now with russia. I guess the western mind tends to think that chinese are more capable of making mistakes…
Well maybe they got it right this time (and why not?..) besides I have seen mistakes from verlinden.
And it is certain beyond doubt that there is no imidiate equivalent for the english letter ‘W’ in Russian. I also checked my “CLOBAPN” (slovari-dictionary) and she’s [:X] right![:D]
May I suggest that maybe this is a western marking, and not realy a typo?
I had a chance to look at one today at my local Hobby hang out and wow! what a kit!..its very nice and all but it still aint no 100.00 dollar model! OUCH!!! [%-)]

ShModeler, I wasn’t concerned with who was “right” or “wrong” (that’s why I put “right” and “wrong” in quotes in my previous post), I was just trying to figure out if there was in fact both a Mi-24V AND a Mi-24W or not (and thanks to you, now I know![:)].

Having lived in the West (USA) and Asia (Japan), I can say with confidence that folks in the East and West both make mistakes with the same frequency! [;)]

Could it be an export version of the ‘E’? different weapons fit maybe?
BTW, check out the main undercarriage doors, on the one I saw they were made of some sort of fibre glass/papier mache/bits of Trabant. Very rough & thick, (around 1/2 inch) looked like a contour map of the Urals!
