Picked up Tamiya’s new 1/48 T-34/76 at the LHS today. It’s a very nice kit, with Tamiya’s usual crisp molding. The cast turret is very well done. We still get a “Die-cast chassis for extra weight and enhanced realism.”
There are quite a few unused parts in the kit, so other versions are bound to follow.
And at about $10 USD, it’s quite the bargain. It wll be interesting to see what importers will charge overseas.
At least 20 bucks man. That’s what the quarter scalers cost here in the US.
I picked up a bunch of Lions Roar PE & the Tiger I from HK’s LuckyModeler, the shipping readily makes up for hte difference in price if you just order one thing, but order a few, the savings do add up.
I’ll definitely be picking up the T34
Yes, I’ve been seeing a lot of the Lion Roar PE here, too. looks good, and is VERY cheap! I’ve seen sets for everything except this new T-34.
I’ve seen quite a few Eduard PE sets, too.
Interesting how quickly the market responds!
From what I’ve seen & read, a lot of PE in this scale may not be worth the extra $.
Regards, Rick
Really? Hmm…all the PE I’ve personally seen (and bought) so far is quite cheap and very effective in 1/48. Very much worth the extra (insert symbol of your local currency here), in my opinion.
Of course, worth is always in the wallet of the beholder! [;)]
I hope this does not spell the end of 1/35.

Martin - No need to worry 1/35 is going to oblivion. Tamiya introduced the scale way back when, and it has been firmly established over the decades this then. Perhaps Tamiya is taking a break from it for a while, but the Chinese are turning out so many 1/35 kits, most of which are quality offerings, that Tamiya’s withdrawal will hardly be missed.
Will other companies retool to test the quarterscale market ? Perhaps, but only marginally if their 1/35 sales remain strong. Frankly, I expect to see a core of modelers to refuse departing from 1/35 “no matter what” (we’ve seen their testimonies on this forum repeatedly), and that’s fine. Quarterscale appeals firstly to the home islands of Japan, and orther Oriental markets. I think it is welcomed by some hobyists who may have" cut their teeth" on Aroura back in the old days, and new folk just entering the hobby who may not be aware of it’s blasphemy. But be assured there are so many hobbyists out there with umpteen 1/35 kits stashed that it will remain the supreme scale for the majority of builders for a long, long time.
besides, there are a little over ten or so new kits from tamiya-vs the hundreds of 1/35 kits.
the tamiya tiger 1/48th costs $40 here in Australia…
Dave
Of course it doesn’t!
It doesn’t even spell the end for Tamiya’s 1/35 line of kits, contrary to what some curmudgeons have been crowing about.
Maybe I should add this short disclaimer to every post I make about new Tamiya 1/48 products:
Tamiya will release 2 completely new 1/35 kits in 2005 in addition to the 1/35 Leclerc slated for release in July.
That’s three completely new 1/35 kits from Tamiya in one year, which is pretty darned good.
So don’t fret, 1/35 isn’t going to disappear, even from Tamiya. [:D]
They shall release more modern 1/48 armour and not WWII armour so that it can be compatible with many present 1/48 helicopter for dioramas. A diorama of 1/35 armour and helo will be too big! And a diorama of 1/72 will be too small especially with figures ,1/48 scale will be just nice.
Hehe, I was just kidding about that one, but seeing more manufacturers other than Tamiya releasing 1/48 scale, and AM products like Verlinden starting to show up on the market I still am a little concerned.

Any word on when the modern tanks will come out? I’m itching for an abrams and bradley in 48 scale, and i’m looking forward to a cute hmmvw (if that’s ever possible) in this scale as well
