Here’s a few of my WIPs… As you can see, they aren’t museum quality, but I like 'em…
Like I said, these are “In-Progress” builds… I’ll put new pictures in their respective threads when I have a bit more work done on each, and the hows and whys I did what I did…
I’m not embarrassed or nothin’, I just wanted to show that I don’t just sit in here and talk about dioramas without actually doing them… Biggest issue I have is havin’ too many goin’ at once…
Heh, never even thought of that “horse” connection… I just put ‘em on there since covering the headlights is a standard step in camouflaging a vehicle, with empty sandbags in this case, to prevent reflected glare from attractin’ the eye…
“Delayed Reaction” pieces are the best, IMHO… Most of Mauldin’s work was that way…
Yeah, they’re invasion stripes… The figures are only roughly postioned, that guy at the boom will actually be painting the black stripes when I get it set. Frankensteining 1/48th scale figures takes me a bit longer than 1/35th because of the lack of 1/48th figures to cut up…
Right now, I’m hung up on building an air compressor for that dio… I’m using the tow-tractor’s engine from the Monogram B-24 as a start-point for a towed compressor.
I have to agree. While I think they are all great (the idea of a dio with the invasion stripes going on never entered my mind), I’ve always been a fan of Mauldin. And these two are among my absolute favorites!
I just wish I had a)come up with the idea to do them and b)had the skill level needed to do them.
When I grow up (and learn to do dio’s well), I wanna be like you!
A journeymans job all around kudoes, nice AC but I like the wheeled vehicles better. I can’t tell if its the pics or what but your 35th figs look good the 48th’s don’t seem to have much going on. The great thing about being an artist,(Yes I’m calling you guys artists.)is you get to dictate how much or how little emphasis is given a subject, or part thereof. I put a great deal of effort on correcting, converting, detailing my stuff. But here’s the rub, excepting a 1/72 chickasaw awaiting decals I’ve completed one other kit this decade.
