Just finished - Major Bong P-38

Howdy Folks!

I just finished this Hasegawa Major Bong P-38L Lightning - 1/48:

Any and all feedback welcomed.

I did a bit of research and found Major Bong with several P-38s that all looked different, so I took a few liberties with the detailing. This is my first model with an airbrushed metallic finish. I used Tamiya Flat Aluminum. Panel lines and rivets are penciled in. Weathering was dry brushed black pastel.

I also used a great trick picked up form the pages of FSM Mag - pre painting black around creases and panel lines to add depth and slight variation in the top coat.

Gloss coat was applied before decals were set.

Im glad to see Im not the only 1 who uses tamiya flat aluminum from time to time. Thx for the pictures I enjoyed them. Gratz on the build.

Excellent build [tup][tup]. The BMF looks very good indeed, as does the subdued weathering. Nice job!

very nice build steve!![tup] the tamiya flat aluminum don’t look bad, but if you want an extra nice lookin’ metal finish, try alclad metalizers a time or 2. a very nice product with very nice results if used properly. i love the weathering effects, great job on the 38. later.

I concur with the others. I especially like the one photo where you can’t see the landing gear, thus giving the impression it is flying.

Thank you all for the very positive feedback! Some have used the term BMF, some NMF - not sure what these mean exactly. My guess is the MF stands for Metallic Finish, but…

Also wondering if anyone has seen wing tips painted like this on a P-38. I could not find any pics, but I thought it would be a nice accent.

Great Build. Inspires me to start on My p-38! BTW, I prefer Alcad too, every easy to use and looks great.

(sigh) I’ve got to get the paintbooth together and get to airbrushing. You’re Metal finish is just inspirational.

One thing, though. The props should be reversed. the '38’s spun to the outside.
