it started off as a trip to the hobby shop to get clear gloss and flat black and a brush. it ended with a 14 USD 1/48 italereli/trimaster me262 and a 5 dollar eudard PE set for it. i love people who overbuy [:D] forgot the black of course. now im itching to start, but i must wait for other things to vroom/fly off the bench - including homework !
Absolutely, “overbuy” is the word!! [:)]
The whole trick is to somehow incorporate the model into one of your school projects… so then the Build will be part OF the homework!! [;)] My middle daughter, when doing her senior project, chose “Appalachian Quilting”. Her great grandmother (my mamaw), has been making quilts all her life; taught Angela the skill, which garnered her an “A” for the project… Angela has made three quilts on her own since then, and enjoys it enough to where she will more than likely carry on the tradition.
Good luck, Reggie, looking forward to seeing your “262” come together! [:)]
Take care,
Frank
that’s like me…
going to the store to buy a 109
leaves with 3 models, 14 bottles of paint, and 2 books
I had one of those moments today.
I was in my LHS just for a browse (promising myself to put of any future purchases until I get work and more permanent accomodations here in Brno) and saw for the first time in years, Italeri’s old 1/72 MiG-37 Ferret kit. I’d purchased two 1/72 Eduard L-39 Albatross kits earlier and one of them had post Socialist Lithuanian Air Force decals in it that I had’t intended on using. I smelled a post Soviet era hypothetical project imediately and the Ferret was dirt cheap.
I could not resist (yeah! As if I tried real hard!)
I have finally learned the art of entering a hobby shop, browseing for an hour or 2 and leaving without actually having bought anything. Actually, my wife had a lot to do with it. Seem to remember that there were a lot of lectures and guilt trips involved. (Hey it was 30 years ago and I seem to be having more and more senior moments).
my wife gave me a simple solution to this problem. go into the hobbyshop with little or no money. you wont walk out with very much. got to fix that someday.

An ongoing problem for myself as well i beleive there is no cure!
That’s very good self control on your part reggie![:D]I went to the LHS on Saturday just to pickup two bottles of paint. I walked out with a Monogram B-52 and almost had a new airbrush as well.
Joe, you got into enough trouble with the twins [;)]
credit cards + the internet = serious modeller’s dept.
Over buy, replenish stocks plus must haves…tsk, tsk, tsk…it’s a terrible thing
hey reggie are u under 16 cos im still 14 and although these guys at the forum are GR888888 its nice to chat wiv someone your own age. if you’re unda 16 (LOL) shoot me a line at flyboy572001@yahoo.com
If knuckle heads like us didn’t over-buy, there would be soooooooo many fewer companies, producing sooooooo many fewer good products. Keep the dream alive, brother!
Joe,
In my case my wife has to keep my wallet. Debit/credit cards are still in there.[:D]

whbi2 has raised a most salient point. whenever i go onto towerhobbies.com to buy R/C stuff, i usually starve for several weeks paying my dad off. thank goodness i dont have my own credit card or i think i might end up going south.
(edit) oh yes, i did do a 1/24 subaru WRC for a school project once. but the teacher kinda smelt that it was an excuse for building a model, but i did a good job on the project anyway. so he was cool about it.[:)]
