I just bought the Eduard 1/48th Albatros D.V Weekend Edition kit (for $10.99!!), and was wondering if anyone has ever built it. After opening the box tonight, I was very impressed with what I saw: very crisply-molded plastic, no flash, LOTS of parts with great detail, excellent decals, and, from what I could tell, a pretty good set of instructions. I’m going to attempt my first-ever rigging endeavour with this kit, as well as my first-ever biplane build (at least, I don’t think I’ve ever built a biplane; I might have as a kid, but I just don’t remember for sure; I built so many). Any insights that I should be aware of with this kit?
I don’t know much about that kit, but the other Eduard WWI kits I have are very nice kits indeed. If you’re up for it, we have an awesome WWI GB underway currently. If you’re game, please stop on by and build with us! [tup]
I was in a hobby shop last week that had several Eduard kits marked 25% off. FW190’s and WWI kits. Their FW 190A8 kits are nice, and I have a couple of them stashed away. Have my eyes on a couple Albatros kits from them as well, but kinda shy away from the rigging. Maybe t’s time to take the plunge.
I built this kit. It is excellent. Fit is good as well as the detail. Decals are also excellent. I did not attempt the rigging but have since on an Eduard Weekend Edition Newport. Here are a couple of pictures of mine.
Good luck with your build and look forward to seeing the finished kit!
I have to agree with modelfreak…it’s a great kit, no real fit issues, and builds into a fine model. Eduard does make a PE set for it as well, should you want to beef it up a bit. This is my take on their 1/48 profipack version -
Planning ahead is the key. If you do so, most rigging jobs are a snap. They just look difficult because sometimes there is so much of it, but if you work slowly from the inside lines outward, you will be rewarded with a fine-looking stringbag for sure. My material of choice is smoke-colored monofilament thread, but there are many other mediums to choose from. Take a gander at the “Knights of the Sky” Group Build. Lots of info available there! [tup]
