The first is a left side 3/4 forward view, in natural sunlight, followed by the same basic shot in artificial light:(the print, is the photo Wingzandthingz posted of the digital camo)
The next, is a right front 3/4 view:
A close up of the above shot, including the starboard gun, nose gear, and cockpit “window”:
This is a close up showing the craft’s number, and the main landing gear:
This last shot closes in on the nose gear:
This has been a fun build, and a bit of a learning curve experience. I hope there is something of value here for at least some of you. I have to turn my attention now, to the Star Trek group build.
That turned out really nice! I love all the random shapes and greeblies you added, but for the life of me, I can’t get a size reference. How big is it and what “scale” is it?
Hmmm. I never mentioned scale! The model is 10-1/2" long, and 7" wide weapons pylon tip to tip, and 3-1/8" tall, ground to top of weapon heat dissipation assembly. The scale is 1:48.
ACMODELER01 I need an important piece of information from you . I didn,t know what they were called and I need to know . Are they available in 1/48 ,1/72 , 1/96 ? the greeblies I mean . Oh and who makes them . I think I,ll need a whole lot of them … tankerbuilder
Hey SUMPTER 250 ---- Where did you get the idea for that very interesting ship??? I have meant for years to do a smaller colony type ship , but when I sit down to start ,all ya,ll have so much further ahead in terms of thinking than I . Oh well , I guess I,ll just go back to turning ww2 tanks into undersea and extraterrestrial research and survey vehicles .
Question: in the first photo, it looks as though the model has a wing on the “right” side. In the second photo (right front, 3/4 view) the wing appears to have moved to the other side.
Is that just an illusion due to the angle of the camera?
That digital camo paint really works!!! The “missing wing”/ weapon pylon just kind of blends in with the main body of the vessel. you can still make out the barrels of the weapon.
Do a search on my posts. I have a couple of other “kitbashes” posted, and you can see the “line of thinking” in the general similarity of my craft. It’s a matter of “what does a vessel need ?”, and “where should it be?”, and how do I model it? The rest is “how does this look here”, and if it looks good, glue it!
“Greeblies”, if I’m not mistaken, is a term used by the special effects model builders for the add-on shapes. They are 1/48,1/72,1/96, and more scales…things that are very familiar(parts left over from kitbashes and other odds and ends), but when put in a different position are almost unrecognizable.
/forums/1062393/ShowPost.aspx The process is in the junkbuild thread, but is basically a three color paint job. Darkest first, mask off all the little squares/rectangles…lighter color next, mask off all the…lightest color last. then remove the 3-5 hundred little bits of masking tape!!!
As mentioned, Wingzandthingz posted a photo of a jet fighter in the digital camo scheme, and it was intrigueing enough to try it. I may use the same technique to do the "aztek " pattern on the Kodiak I’m doing in the “Startrek group scratchbuild 09” thread.
