I’m building an Academy P-47D Bubbletop and putting an Aires cockpit set in it. I’ve just about got the cockpit all painted, but ran into a slight problem. I need to know what is the best way to mount the instrument panel. It’s to narrow to meet the cockpit sidewalls, and the rudder pedals are too short to be stuck to the floor.
Has anyone used an Aires P-47 cockpit before? And how did you mount the panel?
Daniel, I am currently working on the p-47n. I put in the aires cockpit and had the same frustration. What I did was add some thin strips of styrene to both edges of the instrument panel to make it reach the cockpit sides and then mounted it by glueing both of those sides. I’m not sure it is the best way, but it was what I came up with. However, I will tell you that I, in my haste to get it all closed up, didn’t get equal extensions on both sides so the square cutout at the top of the panel doesn’t sit exactly centered with the fuselage. I am hoping that the gun sight will cover up this minor flaw.
Hope this helps.
Leon
PS. I will definately be interested in progress reports/pictures as you go to see if you have any of the same problems I have/had. You know…learning from others. Thanks.
Thanks for the help mate. I’m actually using the cockpit for the hasegawa kit and putting it the academy kit, so I don’t know what sort of problems I’ll run into yet. That sounds like probably the best way to fit the panel. I was either gonna do something like that or use the gun sight to mount it (the gun sight extends a fair way behind the panel).
I’ll try to post some progress pics in the next few days.
