I applied the decals to Fine Molds’ 1/48 D4Y1 Comet (Judy) this weekend. Lots of Micro Sol were used, as the Hinomarus are printed as white and red discs (plus the white fuselage square). The panel lines are petite and to scale, so I strategically placed slits on the applied decals to help them conform. The decal carrier film is flat, so the wing stencils appear silvered, but aren’t. This is going to be a very colorful IJN bird !
Thanks for letting me share the progress with you !
I still have a little touchup to do on certain areas. I decided to keep the MM paint, rather than apply more coats.
Thank you fightinjoe, newtothegame, & ArmorMaster !
I forgot to include a shot of Judy’s gams !
They’re beautifully cast in white metal. The legs are painted Aeromaster Mitsubishi Cowl Blue Black, the hydraulic lines are Model Master Aircraft Interior Black, and the couplers are MM Brass. The tires are Color of Eagles Tire Black, the hubs are Metalizer Steel, and the holes are MM Flat Black.
These are probably the nicest kit gear legs I’ve seen. I still have to wash & drybrush them. Judy’s got a GREAT pair of legs !
This is a great looking model, it is one that I don’t have in my collection, as I have just started a ‘Jill’ myself which is my 4th IJA/IJN aircraft subject.
Today’s Japanese quiz: How do you pronounce that katakana character on the tail that precedes the “-257?”
(Hint: you’ll sound a bit like a rap artist if you say it repetitively.)
Lobbie - I also have a Jill and a Jack (guess the title of that build?), both with Eduard PE & vac canopies, near the top of the pile. Looking forward to seeing yours !
Brian - going by your clue, my guess would be “yo?” (although I question your use of the words [c]rap and artist in the same sentence !) [(-D]
