Ju 87R-2 Stuka Pro Modeler kit...what is it really?

I have this kit and I’ve been working on it for a while now. The problem is, I haven’t been able to find accessories for it, because it seems that it’s a weird version of the Stuka. Is it really an “R” version, or is it something else and just mislabeled?

Looking a little deeper, it might be a “B” variant…does this sound right to anyone? Has anyone else built this kit? Should I toss it and start over with a good kit (the fit on it is terrible)?

The R-2 and the B-2 are basically the same aircraft. The difference between them is that the B carry bombs under the wing and the R carry fuel.

When I bought this kit people swore it was the best, as it is a Hasegawa rebox. I was not quite impressed, just like you, so I just carried on and finished it…

Thanks for the quick reply…I didn’t know that the only difference was really what they were carrying! That’s good to know, and now I’ve got a whole slew of accessories I can get. Thanks!

Externally the only difference was the fuel tanks outboard, but internally, the wings had to be plumbed for fuel lines. The outboard racks were dual purpose. For short missions they could carry bombs like the Bs. Some pictures of Bs might actually be Rs carrying bombs on short missions.

I have only just completed this particular kit and treated it as a “B” in matching unit markings.

The kit itself was very disappointing, out of shape in the fuselage area. I questioned myself if the moulds were worn or rejects and bought cheaply on the open market. Having said all this it turned into a very pleasing model.

I’m putting together a presentation of the model and will be submitting the same to the FineScale Modeler and hopefully it will be shown in the readers gallery.

I read somewhere that the R version didn’t have the siren on the left gear leg and the B did.
