Ju-52 See Conversion WIP

OK, I am going to try to do a WIP. This will be a conversion of the Monogram Ju-52 into the float equipped version. I decided to start with the floats, because if these came out looking like crap I wouldn’t have wasted the rest of the airframe. Once I gathered enough reference material, I made a set of drawings of the floats then enlarged them to 1/48 scale.

Bulkheads cut out from sheet styrene:

Spacers made from spare sprue and the bulkheads aligned in my high-tech cardboard jig:

The 2 floats frames removed from the jig:

Bronto, that is going to be an epic conversion.

Just in case you weren’t aware MDC do a float plane conversion for the Ju 52.

Best of luck.

Karl

You have made a good start on quite a project. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Yeah, I know MDC do a conversion, but I dont want to spend the $$ for it (which is more than the cost of the kit) when I think I am capable of doing the conversion. (maybe I have been reading too many of Hans “frugal” posts?)

I’m looking forward to this!!! Great so far!!!

Hans is a good guy, puts out the challenge to DIY without actually challenging you!!! It has made me a better builder!!!

Interesting challenge. Keep us Posted.

That’s good, nothing worse than starting on a major conversion only to find out some already does it in resin, or worse still releases it as you finish yours.

Been there, done that.

Karl

Looking forward to updates on this one!

Thanks for the encouragement guys! One of the floats is starting to take shape. Hopefully today will give me enough time to get the basics of both done.

Had more time to work on this, the floats just need some details added to them, and I have assembled / painted the interior parts. Tomorrow I should have have enough time to get the main airframe together.
