Hi
Looking at both Revell’s JU 290 & Trumpeter’s FW 200 I am thinking of converting them both to Lufthansa civil. Is this possible or am I crazy to even think about it? Has anybody got an idea of what it will involve?
I guess for one I would have to print my own decals but I am sure that is the least of my problems!
The Kondor should not be too difficult, remove the gun stations and gondola, replace the propellers with two blade units, add several additional windows. The aircraft had windows plated over for military use and on the Koster version the outline of those windows is clear - don’t know it it is the same on the Trumpeter kit or not. Strip the fuel tanks and fuel distribution table from the floor and install seating - sounds simple, eh?
…As for the Ju 290, it wouldn’t be as simple. The civil version was actually a totally different aircraft, the Ju 90. (The 290 being developed from it) The tail is totally different, engines different, windscreen different, and different wheels, just to name a few. The only other version would be one 290 completed using bomber -B parts, of which there is only one photo I can find, a three-quarter rear view. Not too helpful.
My advice? Stick with the Fw 200. Much much simpler.
