This is Dragon’s old JS-2m ChKZ built straight out of the box. A pretty simple kit to build and looks the part. I know that there is accuracy issues, but I wanted to take a little break from german stuff and just build something green and simple. Before anyone says it, there IS chipping there but was muted by the application of the dust/dirt. I may go back over it and tweak it a little more later, but time to move on and finish a couple more projects.
I congratulate you on a very nice build,it truly is an impressive looking beast.Weathering and chipping and so forth is really up to the personal taste of the modeler, you have to go with what satisfies you as the builder, and yours looks good.I like the painting of the recognition stripes, the only thing I would have done is to put more of a steel finish on the running surface of the road wheels.
That is one good looking JS-2![tup] Love the mud and dirt on the fenders. Just one question what did you finish up the model with, pigments or pastels??[?]
I generally don’t go for really dirty armor, but this looks great.
Does the turret come with that texture cast onto it, or did you add that rough-cast effect through other means? It looks good underneath the paint and weathering.
This really is beautifully finished! I love the whole look, the paint and the weathering are perfect!
For anyone wondering, the only real accuract issues is the clearance between the tracks and the fenders–it’s too s"cale" short/small. You need to insert a .040 spacer onto the bottom hull part where it joins the top hull all around to get the proper rise to it; it’s a sincere PITA to do, but it does do away with that somewhat “squashed:” look.
I really appreciate the kind words from everybody, it means alot coming from skilled builders such as yourselves. anthony2779 & stick man, the roadwheels do have a steel finish to them, but between the dust/dirt and shadows( not a great photogragher/camera, yeah I’ll blame the camera) the camera didn’t pick it up. But thanks for watching my back.
mg., I used Mig pigments european dust and some of Tamiya’ weathering sets, also some black pastels for the exhaust stains.
Dre, believe it or not the kit came with all that nice texture molded onto it, not a bad kit for its age. I don’t remember having to use any putty/filler at all.
**Steve,**thanks for looking and the kind compliment. Looking forward to your 251/10, the interior and the gun look stunning!!
Doog, thanks man. I really appreciate the kind words. That Alan Grille-M that you helped me out with(the tracks you so graciously sent me, Thanks in a HUGE way!!!) awhile back is shaping up. I sprayed a base coat and put the first steps of weathering the interior down.Might post some wip pics soon. This baby is being a real test of my skills.
Thanks again to everyone who took the time to look and comment. I hope you like what you see.
**manny & jester,**Thanks for looking. To answer your question, yes the air-recognition bands were hand painted. It was a little nerve racking at first but not bad. I don’t think the pics show them, but I even added some little drips/runs of paint at the bottom of the bands, to show hastily applied paint. Thanks again to everyone for the kind words and for looking.
Beautiful build. As mentioned, those white recognition stripes look just fantastic.
Manstein, where did you pick up the Jaguar interior set? I was going to get one, but the guy was asking $80 for it a few years back. In hindsight I wish I picked it up, as it seems pretty hard to find these days.
Super build panzer88!! [tup][tup] Looks great for OOB! I’ve got the same kit and will probably build it for the upcoming “Red Storm on the Reich” GB. I’m glad to see your’s turned out so well!! I might try to correct the hull issue by adding the .040 shims as suggested by the doog, but if its really the PITA that he says I may just do it OOB also!
Panzer88, looks great. Built that one a few years ago as my first shot at indie tracks and found it almost a pleasure. Thought about doing it again with the correction mentioned by doog, and then Tamiya releases one…
