joke maus build

I’ve got a pegasus hobbies 1:72 maus model and i’m making it for my fiance as kind of a gag gift so i need to “goof” it up a bit. So far I’m planning to give it a pink/red/white camo paint scheme, a bigger bore but stubby cannon (ala early pz4’s or sturmtiger) and a bunch of scratch built smoke mortars on the sides of the turret. it’ll also have “custom” markings instead of the crosses. maybe some missiles from an airplane accessory kit. any other ideas?

Have you ever seen the movie " Tank Girl " , starring Lori Petty , and Naomi Watts ? " Rebecca " ( Lori Petty) , AKA " Tank Girl "rolls around in a heavily modified M-5 Stuart with additional weapons , plus such " creature comforts ", like an umbrella ,a BBQ , and a lawn chair on the back deck . It even has " licence plates " , " TANK " on the front , and " KANT " , on the rear . I must mention, that the " tank " has beer in it . All this helps her wage her " War " against " Water and Power " .Should give you a few ideas .

Uh, does she like to build models too?

How about a pair of Mickey Mouse-type ears to go where the cupola is supposed to go. You’d have to probably ‘scratch build’ something, but it shouldn’t be hard. Get some small half dome-like piece big enough to cover the hatch, glue two small disks made from a hole punch out of thin sheet styrene to the top of it, and paint the small assembly black. Then mount it over the commander’s cupola. That should add to the fun.

I want to see pics when it’s done! [:o)]

strathcona: was it a stuart? i haven’t seen that movie in a long time.

tigerman: no, she doesn’t have the patience for it. but she made the lego millenium falcon and a bunch of other stuff, go fig. she knows i’m doing this and is crazy about the idea.

duke: i don’t know about actual black “ears” but you’ve given me an idea. the maus doesn’t have a cupola (oddly enough, i guess it’d be too high to see anything or something, maybe they thought the commander is high enough to just poke his head out anyway and be safe) but now i’ve gotta get one from some other model and stick it on there. I think i will give it “mickey mouse ears” ala the '43 t-34, the hatches ARE in the right spots.

Yep , thats a Stuart , goatmonkey.

another update:

sorry for the poor lighting. all the bits and pieces are there (i guess i won’t put the missiles on). all that’s left now is first clear coat, insignia, weathering and dull coat.

question, what would you dry-brush this camo scheme with? dirty white?

For markings you should use red hearts and for serial numbers something like xxx000xxx00
and unit I/LV-U.

That’s hilarious! That thing would be pretty deadly if it was real.

actually it looks pretty good for a joke build but I agree that its some missles or something else nice job does she build with you also?

A loose tow cable centered off the back end would make a great Maus’ tail!

update, decals and a wash

actually two washes, i tried an oil wash and it turned out absolute crap. it was gritty looking and acted like a water-based wash (droplet borders outlined on drying). i followed it up with a regular acrylic wash which worked MUCH better. guess there’ll have to be extra weathering to cover up the cruddy looking oil wash.

Done:

afraid i might’ve overweathered, the thing looks like a building fell on it. opinions?
