Hello All,
Just a quick question, Have a Valom 1/72 Lockheed XFV-1 on the go. It has a nice printed Acetate piece with all the dials on, that is sandwiched between the plastic and the brass photo etch instrument panel, looks quite good btw. Have only ever either dry brushed or decaled this area before. My question is, how do I stick them all together ?
Regards

Mick, I’m sure everyone has their own way of assembling these parts, but this is what works for me. First, if the plastic IP has any raised detail, I file it off smooth. I then paint the back of the acetate, first in the small areas where any colors other than white on the instrument faces might be, and then paint the entire back surface white and trim it to the size of the PE panel. I remove the PE panel from it’s sprue, clean up the edges, and stick it to the tacky side of a post-it note, where I paint and weather it (use your dry-brush technique here if you like the effect). Once this is done, I use a small amount of white glue to position the acetate on the plastic part, and when it’s set, I apply a fine bead of thin CA all around the edges only. I repeat that mounting process when attaching the PE panel to the acetate, taking care not to get adhesive of any kind into the areas where the instruments will show. Once assembled, I touch up the edges with the same color paint I used on the PE panel.
There might be simpler ways that I’m not aware of, but this method has always worked well for me.
Hello Mike,
Thank you for the walk through. I was wondering if white glue would work on the acetate PE combo. It did just fine, the panel is all together and looking pretty nice. [tup] Many thanks for your help.
