The jerry cans seen on the exterior of U.S. Hummers and armor in the middle east are they water or fuel cans? I know the military uses cans with different caps for each and I was wondering which cans are normally mounted outside and which inside? Does it matter? i’m going to mounting plenty of exterior cans on some of my hummers and armor and I wonder what the dilli-o was. Thanks in advance![:D]
POL (petroleum, oil, lubricants) products are normally stored outside. If the can leaks, you don’t want that stuff leaking on your gear or food. Also if your vehicle takes a hit, you don’t want all that flammable stuff inside.
Both the 5 gallon water can and 5 gallon fuel can are made of plastic. While both cans are similar in size and shape (so they fit in the same rack), the design is much different between the two. This prevents someone from accidentily pouring water in a gas tank, etc. Water cans used to be black but are now sand (tan). Fuel cans tend to be a brownish OD.
I’m in iraq now, if you can mount one anywhere then do it is a philosophy here
Points taken!LOL Thanks![bow]
The water cans have a single bar handle and fuel cans have three bars on the handle. Water cans also have “Water” molded into the outside and fuel cans have “Fuel” molded on them. Water cans also have two smaller caps on the main cap for pouring water and allowing air in. Fuel cans have just one large cap.
