I’m working on several 1/35 Afrikakorps vehicles, and I want to mount multiple Jerry Cans on the sides - but I’m having a hard time finding Jerry Can holders. Anybody know where I can find some? My scratch-building skills are minimal, so photo etched would be preferable. I know Royal Model made a kit, but I can’t seem to find anyone that carries it in the US. Any ideas?
If the jerry can holders on Afrika korps vehicles are the same holders I’m thinking of, they are very very simple, s I think the easiest method would be scratch building- Just get an old aluminum can, and cut it into thin strips (regular scissors should do the trick) that you can use for the jerry can holders. It shouldn’t take too much work, and the difficulty will be minimal- it will just take a little experimentation. You’ll have to improve your skills in simple scratch building like this sooner or later…
The Italeri 1/35 jerry can set comes with the parts to make several racks that can be cut to what size you prefer. Separate bars and corner pieces of angle stock are provided. Just cut the bars to fit the length you want and glue them to the corner pieces. Pretty easy.
the dragon 1/35 afrika korps pz-1b has a photo-etch 6 can holder that fits on the left rear fender.
i have a pair of the dragon kits. looking at the “parts not used” i am going to build one with the afrika korps rear deck hatches, jerrycan rack and painted afrika korps dark yellow. the other one will use the “not used” rear deck hatches and other parts on the fender and will be painted worn panzer grey with a dust or poor yellow overspray.
am practicing on my italeri pz-1b and have a tristar pz-1a. any idea where to get an engine for either of these so i can open the engine hatches?
I’ve seen some pictures of DAK jerry can holders made out of wood just like open crates. These are easy to build and does not need to be very nice because the real thing were made in the field.
Here’s one I made from some strip and rod I had lying around. You can see the real deal on some Panzers in France too.

Thanks for all the sugestions. I’m looking for the smaller Jerry can holders - ones that hold one or two cans and were mounted on Kubelwagen/Armored car fenders/sides. Any additional suggestions or templates on how to scratch build are welcome!
The simple one can holders were typically field mods and not factory installed items. So far as I’m aware there aren’t any available on the AM scene and they are typically included in kit parts as styrene elements. As mentioned, it’s not hard to scratch build one from either strip styrene or thin aluminum given how simple of a holder they were.
Looks like ‘agentg’ has this situation well in hand.
