Those are much better pictures. I could be wrong, but did you paint the headlights green?

Your not wrong. As I under stand it if you do not have the canvas headlight covers give the lights a spray of O.D. Then if you accidentally turn on the lights when you’re on the front lines you don’t draw enemy fire.

In a couple of books on Jeeps I noticed in the photos dark headlights and one photo were a new headlight was put in . Stuck out like the proverbial sore thumb.

Thanks about the pictures, last time I used a camera you still used film.

Fine-looking Jeep there, Armyguy.

I’ve got one of these big-scale Hasegawa Jeeps inching its way closer to the top of the to-do pile. Any hints, tips, warnings or general advisories before I dive in?

It’s a nice kit ,goes together well. There are a lot of mold release marks to fill on the body and hood.

I’ll post a photo of one I’m working on for a Jeep group build on another forum.

I have another big scale Jeep kit in my stash Dragons 1/6 scale. I got to get a bigger work bench before I start that one.

Greg here’s the work in progress pic. you can see the mold release marks on the body. I use Mr Surfacer for the pin marks and you can see were I added tool box’s in the wheel wells .

I like the Hasegawa kit better than Italeri on but I understand the Hasegawa is out of production , I hope some one can correct me on that or confirm it.

Armyguy,actually the headlight switches on the WW2 jeeps have a lockout button that had to be pushed to allow the headlights to be turned on.This was to prevent the accidental illumination of the standard headlights.The button had to be pushed at the same time the switches lever or main button was pulled or turned,depending on the year the jeep was built.I am in my fourth year of restoring a 1943 Willys MB,this is how I know this.I am also a modeler and have built the old Italeri 1/24 jeep and have a couple unbuilt Hasegawa ones waiting.Nice build !

Jeepman same with light switch’s on the M-38 ( that was before kid’s and a house )but with any thing no matter how many safety things you have some one will manage to screw up. I should have also said a coat of O.D. on the headlights prevents glare from the sun giving away your position same as the use of wind shield cover if you don’t have the canvas headlight covers.

Four years on your restoration wow . Would love to see some photo’s both of your 1:1 and your 1:24 jeeps.

Here are some pics:The first three are of my 1:1 scale 43 MB restoration.The MB pics are of my Italeri 1/24 jeep with scratchbuilt 50 cal and mount and scratchbuilt radio.The Marine M38A1 with M100 trailer is a 1/25 modified Dukes of Hazzard jeep with Italeri parts and a Hasegawa WW2 trailer modified into a M100.The MB was done many years ago before Hasegawa released thier Jeeps.

Looking very nice. My only comment is, usually if the is a vehicle number on the right there is a unit designation on the left. All in all looks great.

Loved seeing the photos . Great work, can’t believe the M-38-A1 is a Dukes of Hazzard jeep.

You scratch built the .50cal nice. It’s nice to see Italeri put weapons in their latest release of the 1/24 scale jeep. Just got the .50 cal version was surprised by the M1rifle and M1 carbine.

Your comment about unit marking’s on the left side of bumper is right, I mean correct.

But when units were moving up orders would come down to remove shoulder patch’s and unit marking’s from vehicle’s The marking’s were applied using gas soluble paint so they could be removed or mud or grease could be used to cover them. My logic with just putting just company and vehicle number is as a pvt I’m told to cover the unit markings I do the unit marking’s, no more no less, I did as Sarg told me.
