Looks good Wayne, seems like they’d block off the bottoms of the fuel tanks these days but I guess it’s an easy enough fix.
looked at the PATRIOT and everything looks filled. the tanker is an earlier kit. my fills look a tad rough but will be fine after priming and painting and very light weathering. it’s more a competition thing like filling the motor holes on the hull of old Tamiya kits in case someone picks it up… one reason i tend to enter some tracks on bases.
LOL the Alf is from Simpilot work, my Alf is already on sprues [:)]
Bsyamato: Whoops! My mistake!
getting more done on truck. next time i will leave the drive shafts off until i’m ready to prime. they are delicate, i broke one cutting it off the sprue and cleaning it up.the reason to leave them off is, as small as this is, there isn’t a lot of room for fat fingers to hold the chassis and there is the possibility of a thumb pressing into the shaft and breaking it. also in instruction #6 they show the front arrow for the K-2 mount forward of the horizontal brace and it should show it behind. it is obvious when looking at the part.
No problem Cliff , hope to get back soon with updates but actually working only on a large kit (italeri gigant ) to finish soon, and leave clean workbench for others projects.
That sounds pretty awesome Bsyamato. I’ve seen the Gigant box but not sure I’ve ever seen one built.
Anyway I did the pre-shading on the Type 3 the other night though I’m not sure it shows well in the photos,. The Silly Putty is now in place and ready for the second camo colour, I’ll try to snap some photos of her with the big final ‘sliming’ for the third camo paint.
Got another coat of white on Betty, looked a little thin for my taste, and got the crosses on her today. Got to go back and cover some blow-by and one spot under a wing where the tape pulled white, then give her a flat clear as the green was gloss. Used frisket to cut out my crosses and a/b’d the green on. Got the prop spinners painted as well and the props in alum, will do a few steel ‘chips’ tomorrow. Started working over the SAC landing gear. Got pics and will post a few once the paint is done on her this next week. If you do a search for “surrender betty pictures” on ebay you will come across up to about 5-6 different ones showing the pair or singles.
gam she’s looking good mate!! looking forward to the camo!!
hammer, looking forward to seeing those pics! haven’t seen one of those built with that scheme
GH: Sounds awesome, please keep us updated.
Ok here she is ‘slimed’…
And with the Silly Putty removed:
Wow that came out great Gam! Silly Putty comes in very handy.
Thanks! I’ve tried masking tape but Silly Putty is MUCH easier on something with as many edges and corners as a tank.
Great maskin and paint Cliff
Thanks Bsyamato! If you ever want to try some Silly Putty let me know and I’ll see if I can mail you some!
agreed. you just have to be careful pulling it off so you don’t pull off small pieces. also check each hunk of silly putty as you pull it off to make sure no pieces are attached.
pics don’t show it but everything is now primed and ready to paint. chassis is black, exhaust is metallic gray or aluminum, upper body is JGSDF OD at least the Vallejo AV equivalent, and cab top is canvas so a slightly lighter OD for contrast. wheel hubs should be black but will be OD for wash effects. this won’t be dirtied up much.
Looking good Wayne!!
Yes, she’s coming along very nicely there Wayne.
thanks to all for the nice comments. i went to airbrush it on Tuesday and everything went to crab; Vallejo Air wasn’t working in airbrush, clogging, spitting. so i decided to brush paint it. why not, little model. that turned out like crap too though a coupe more coats would have covered up the brush marks. Tonight i go to the bunker to turn the lights out, figure WTH lets try this again and everything was fine. had the paint a tad thin but all the green is painted. probably hand paint the black chassis with MMA easier than doing all the masking.
Ack, I hate when you’re motoring along and then BAM something like that happens. Happy to hear you were able to recover in the end.
me too. probably accounts for the number of shelf queens.
